Emergency Communications Officer

Duties Answer incoming emergency calls promptly using multi-line phone systems, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and communication skills. Perform accurate phone triage to assess the nature and severity of incidents, gathering essential information efficiently. Dispatch appropriate emergency services such as law enforcement, medical teams, or fire departments based on assessed needs. Utilize GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology to pinpoint incident locations precisely for rapid response. Maintain detailed logs and documentation through data entry, transcription, and report writing to ensure accurate records of all communications. Manage conflict and negotiate effectively with distressed callers to obtain critical information while maintaining calm and professionalism. Coordinate with first responders, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders to facilitate seamless incident management and security protocols. Minimum Qualifications High school Diploma or GED equivalency is required Comprehensive knowledge of computers and data entry Must be computer literate Dispatch experience is preferred but not required Must be at least 18 years of age Pass a criminal records check and background investigation Be drug free Possess a valid driver's license Have the ability to type 40 words per minute Complete a polygraph test Ability to attend and complete the Idaho POST dispatch academy within one year of hire All candidates must provide a resume and a completed job application For questions, call 208-945-2121 ext. 1 all applications are available at the Bear Lake County Sheriff's Office located at 30 N.
