General Summary:
The Full-Time Social Sciences Faculty member is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and supporting student success within the Behavioral and Social Sciences Department, with primary teaching responsibilities in Sociology and Anthropology. Reporting to the Vice President of Academics, this role includes teaching undergraduate courses across multiple instructional modalities and locations, including the main campus, online, and dual enrollment sites. Full-time faculty contribute to curriculum development, program review and evaluation, textbook selection, assessment of student learning, student advising and support, and continuous improvement initiatives in support of academic excellence and student achievement. In alignment with the mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Glen Oaks Community College, the faculty member fosters inclusive, student-centered learning environments and serves a diverse student population with varying academic backgrounds, skill levels, and life experiences through teaching, institutional service, and community engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Examples performed by this position include: Collaboratively develop and maintain current, relevant curriculum in the Behavioral and Social Sciences Department. Develop student learning outcomes and design instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments that support achievement of course outcomes in face-to-face and online learning environments. Participate in course, program, and institutional assessment activities. Teach assigned courses in Anthropology, Sociology, and related disciplines as needed. Provide timely, constructive, and meaningful feedback to students. Maintain accurate student records and submit grades in accordance with College policies and deadlines. Maintain regular campus presences through office hours and active participation in departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and committees. Support student persistence, engagement, and academic success through advising, mentoring, and referral to campus resources. Maintain current knowledge of trends in the professional discipline and of best practices in educational methodology through continuing professional development. Complete required institutional trainings and compliance requirements. Other duties within the scope of this position as assigned by their supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Anthropology, Sociology, or closely related social science field from an accredited institution. Minimum of 18 graduate credits in Anthropology or Sociology. Experience teaching college-level courses in Anthropology and Sociology. Demonstrated commitment to student-centered teaching and supporting diverse learners. Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to teach in multiple instructional modalities, including face-to-face and online environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Community college teaching experience. Experience teaching online and at alternate instructional locations, including dual enrollment or early college settings. Graduate coursework or teaching experience in additional disciplines such as Criminal Justice, Psychology, Political Science, or Human Services. Experience with curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, or program review processes. Experience using learning management systems and instructional technology to support student learning.
