Employment Specialist Job Description Word of Hope Ministries, Inc.
Summary:
The Employment Specialist primary goal is to place clients in above livable waged, permanent employment that fits their skill level. To ensure success as an Employment Specialist, the candidate should have knowledge of human resource management, good interpersonal skills, and excellent interview skills.
Reports to:
The Executive Director Responsibilities:
Works closely with clients to develop employment plans that fit individual client aptitude, education level, physical ability, and career goals. Work closely with WOHM clients to identify and overcome barriers to gaining employment. Works closely with the Program Director to generate appropriate employment opportunities for clients. Carefully document interactions with clients, with particular attention to employment and income goals. Assist clients with obtaining and/or completing necessary documents to submit for possible employment. Assists clients with employment-related issues including development of resumes, cover letters, completion of job applications, and developing interviewing techniques. Provides counseling to clients and provides support and feedback on workplace issues. Monitors computer labs and assists clients with learning computer applications such as Microsoft Office. Conducts field work including but not limited to visiting clients at worksites. Maintains and submits all necessary documents and reports as required by Word of Hope Ministries, Inc., regulatory and funding agency policies, procedures, and regulations. Attends staff meetings, trainings, and special sessions, as required. Develops and maintains relationships with employers, community services and resources. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferably in Human Resources or other related field preferred. Two -four years of demonstrated experience in job placement and interviewing job applicants. Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in an office environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential function of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Incumbents regularly drive to business sites which requires the use of a personal vehicle.
Physical Requirements:
Physical exertion is not a normal requirement of this job.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Knowledge of current labor market trends. Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity laws and other local, state, and federal laws pertaining to employment. Knowledge of effective training techniques and adult learning theory. Knowledge of local, state, and federal rules and regulations impacting assigned program. Knowledge of community resources for appropriate referrals. Skill in effective group facilitation. Skill at defusing angry and sometimes hostile clients. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects or to change priorities quickly and frequently. Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision; as well as work as member of multiple teams when necessary. Ability to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse population. Ability to apply problem solving techniques to complex employee issues. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment. Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
Compensation:
This position is part-time and compensation will be commensurate with experience. An idea of the salary range will be provided for candidates who are selected for the interview stage.
