Job Description

Job Title:
Engineering PlannerJob Description The Engineering Planner is responsible for planning and scheduling maintenance work to ensure equipment reliability and operational efficiency. This role works cross-functionally with engineering, maintenance, operations, and plant leadership to verify spare parts availability in SAP, coordinate work orders, and proactively schedule materials and activities. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to read schematics and P&IDs, but does not require a formal degree. The Engineering Planner reports to the Engineering Manager and provides support to the Maintenance team, including assistance with supervisory functions when needed. Responsibilities Plan and schedule daily maintenance work and shutdown activities in close coordination with Maintenance and Operations Team Managers. Prepare and organize complete job packages, including safety requirements, tools, instructions, resources, and documentation such as drawings, pictures, and sketches for crafts personnel. Perform field walkdowns with appropriate resources to define work scope, job requirements, and constraints. Collaborate closely with operations personnel to understand job priorities, timing, and operational impacts. Use SAP to run reports, update job backlog status, and add or adjust materials as needed for work orders. Check spare parts availability in SAP and coordinate with teams to identify required parts when they are not in the system. Specify, request, and stage parts and materials in advance of work to ensure timely execution of maintenance activities. Develop, maintain, and update task lists for recurring maintenance jobs to standardize work and improve efficiency. Evaluate jobs in progress and completed work, comparing actual performance to the job plan and identifying improvement opportunities. Maintain accurate and up-to-date equipment records, including maintenance history and configuration data. Maintain spare parts information and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support reliable and efficient maintenance planning. Participate actively in daily and weekly scheduling meetings to align maintenance activities with operational needs. Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance plans to support long-term equipment reliability. Maintain ISO-critical and regulatory test equipment and associated records to support compliance requirements. Coordinate and work with outside contractors as needed to support maintenance and engineering activities. Collaborate with the site Reliability Team to help implement and sustain a world-class reliability program. Plan and schedule activities for maintenance shutdowns, ensuring resources, materials, and timelines are clearly defined. Perform backup duties for Team Managers as needed, supporting coordination, communication, and execution of maintenance work. Work cross-functionally with engineers, maintenance mechanics, operations, and plant leadership to ensure all stakeholders have the information they need for successful maintenance execution. Proactively enter and manage orders in SAP and ensure parts are scheduled to arrive at appropriate times to support planned work. Essential Skills Proven experience using SAP or a similar ERP system to run reports, manage work orders, order parts, and review inventory. Ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and mechanical schematics. 4-5 years of related experience in scheduling and planning for a technical role, supporting engineers, operations personnel, or maintenance mechanics. Demonstrated experience planning for equipment repairs, replacements, installations, and related maintenance activities. Mechanical aptitude and strong understanding of engineering concepts related to equipment design, installation, and repair. Experience with resource planning, including aligning labor, materials, and tools with scheduled work. Ability to work within structured maintenance processes, including work orders, backlog management, and preventive maintenance. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with engineering, maintenance, operations, and other plant teams. Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining equipment records, BOMs, and maintenance documentation. Ability to organize and prepare complete job packages, including safety information, tools, instructions, and technical documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Exposure to engineering concepts, equipment design, installations, and repairs gained through practical experience. Experience supporting a group of engineers, operations staff, or maintenance mechanics in a planning or coordination capacity. Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance practices and reliability-focused programs. Experience maintaining ISO-critical and regulatory test equipment and related documentation. Ability to work with external contractors and vendors to support maintenance and engineering projects. Strong communication skills to facilitate meetings and discussions with maintenance, operations, engineering, and regulatory stakeholders. Degree is not required; candidates with equivalent hands-on technical and planning experience are encouraged to apply. Work Environment The role typically involves working approximately 75% of the time at a desk and 25% of the time on the plant floor. The Engineering Planner frequently uses SAP and other computer-based tools for planning, scheduling, and documentation, and regularly participates in daily and weekly scheduling meetings. Time on the floor includes performing field walkdowns, coordinating with operations and maintenance personnel, and verifying equipment and job site conditions. The position operates in a collaborative plant environment with close interaction among engineering, maintenance, operations, reliability, and external contractors. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Sauget, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $48.00/hr.
