This position serves as an Engineering Technician III in the Whittier Construction Office, functioning as a Lead Inspector and Survey Party Chief Assistant supporting construction contract administration and project oversight. Communication & Collaboration The candidate must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective communication with technicians, engineers, contractors, public officials, and the public. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to present information clearly, concisely, and persuasively. Work Environment This position requires working outdoors at active construction sites and may involve exposure to hazards such as highway traffic, heights, and uneven terrain while evaluating highway construction activities. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform moderate physical activity including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing.
  • Ability to traverse rough terrain on construction sites.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Competencies:
Salary Grade and Salary Range:
NC 11, $ 45,431- $ 79,504 Management prefers applicants with the following: Knowledge of contract administration to ensure transportation projects are constructed in accordance with NCDOT specifications, standard drawings, policies, and procedures. Experience providing customer service and resolving complex issues that require explaining engineering concepts to a variety of stakeholders, including contractors, property owners, government agencies, and the public. Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and administer highway construction contracts and projects. Experience reviewing and interpreting construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Experience training, planning, coordinating, and supervising the work of technical or professional staff to ensure project goals, schedules, and quality standards are achieved. Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
