The Boeing Company The Boeing Safety, Security & Airworthiness (SS&A) organization is looking for an Experienced (Level 3) or Senior (Level 4 or 5) Systems Safety Engineer to join the Aviation Safety Team within Enterprise Safety and Mission Assurance. This position is based onsite in Seal Beach, CA. As an Airplane Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for working cross-functionally to conduct safety analyses across development, modification, and operation phases of the product lifecycle. We are looking for innovative, enthusiastic, and highly collaborative individuals with unlimited curiosity and a passion for diving into design architecture details. The role offers the opportunity to perform safety analysis at the component, system, and airplane levels across a variety of functional disciplines, including Avionics, Mechanical, Environmental, Electrical, and Propulsion. Our objectives are achieved through independent research, teamwork, creative thinking, and meticulous attention to detail. A successful candidate will have a strong engineering background and understanding of statistical methods, and will be adept at evaluating system architectures to determine the consequences of failures, malfunctions, and defects. They will excel at collaborating with Design Engineers to help create a robust design. You will play a key role in supporting the continued safe operation of today's commercial fleet and in developing the next generation of commercial aircraft.

Primary responsibilities:

Provides technical guidance and training relative to complex safety and airworthiness matters. Conducts system research and analysis to identify potential or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns and quantifies impact. Identifies safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety, mission success, and airworthiness requirements; incorporates into designs, operations, and procedures. Performs or reviews tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements. Creates and maintains aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes. Documents safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards. Develops and maintains safety and corrective action plans. Assists with demonstrating safety hazard risk mitigations and control methods to the customer and regulators. Contributes to establishing global safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience): Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Level 5: 14+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
