Hoboken, NJ Job Details Full-time 7 hours ago Qualifications MATLAB Outdoor work C++ Bachelor's degree System testing Systems analysis Electrical Engineering Field engineering Full Job Description About the Company Stratospheres Inc. is a mission-driven startup focused on developing low-cost, scalable technology to study weather and climate. We launch stratospheric balloons, track and control their movement, and keep them at fixed positions for long duration to collect continuous atmospheric data. We also build physics-based models to simulate and understand weather and climate conditions. About the Role The Flight Test and Engineering team works across all technical groups to deliver payloads to high altitude balloons and support mission operations. This team owns end to end system performance from simulation and testing to launch, flight, and recovery. If something goes up, you are responsible for ensuring it receives the power, data, communications, and resources required to operate in extreme conditions. This role includes hands on assembly and preparation of the flight system, where you will build the flight train, integrate payloads, and verify mission critical components. You will also support launch operations, telemetry, troubleshooting, and recovery, which may require local travel and occasional irregular hours. This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy working across disciplines, solving first principles problems, and contributing to high altitude platform systems. Key Responsibilities Design, plan, and execute balloon flight missions Develop and run simulations for system behavior, navigation, and mission performance Support subsystem and full system testing, validation, and troubleshooting Integrate payloads with power, communications, navigation, and recovery systems Evaluate new technologies and propose improvements to existing systems Work closely with communication and navigation teams to ensure mission success Participate in field deployments, test flights, launch operations, and recoveries Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field Must be willing to learn and apply new concepts quickly Must be willing to move quickly with uncertainty Ability to analyze systems from first principals Programming experience Ability to engage in field work and tests Able to work unusual hours for test flights (infrequent) Skills That Are a Plus Experience with Google Loon or similar HAPS systems is a strong plus Experience with programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, C++ Basic experience with embedded systems/Arduino Experience with ArduPilot/PX4 or similar Experience with field testing Experience with command line Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
