  • Summary:
  • Rush University Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented and business-minded Energy Manager to oversee utility procurement, tracking, financial analysis, and program support.
This position will play a key role in managing all utilities, including electricity, natural gas, chilled water, steam (where applicable), water, and sewer, by tracking usage, validating costs, facilitating payment processes, and identifying opportunities for performance improvement. The Energy Manager will collaborate with the Capital Program Manager, Commissioning & Energy Performance Specialist, and the Rush Sustainability Department to align utility strategies with financial performance, risk management, and sustainability goals. This role is ideal for someone with experience in utility oversight, energy procurement, and data-driven reporting—more business-focused than technical, but still deeply connected to operational impact.
  • Other information:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Energy Management, Sustainability, or related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in energy or utility management, utility billing, or energy procurement.
  • Strong understanding of utility rate structures, procurement, and cost forecasting across multiple utilities.
  • Experience tracking large utility portfolios and working with finance or accounts payable teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling tools.
  • Strong skills in dashboard development, performance tracking, and issue identification.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Preferred Job Qualifications:
  • Experience in healthcare, university, or similarly complex institutional environments.
  • Familiarity with energy hedging strategies, demand response programs, and renewable energy credits (RECs).
  • Experience using energy and utility bill management systems (EMIS or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of Illinois energy markets, credit opportunities, utility programs.
  • Understanding of sustainability frameworks (e.g., ENERGY STAR, LEED, or ESG reporting).
  • Grant-writing or experience with utility incentive programs a plus.
