Berkeley, California About Magnetic Tides At Magnetic Tides, we are pioneering the next wave of neurological recovery. Our team is developing a novel non-invasive brain stimulation device designed to reshape the treatment landscape for stroke rehabilitation, treatment-resistant depression, ataxia, and other neurological and psychiatric disorders. We are looking for a versatile, "hands-on" engineer to help us transition our breakthrough technology from the lab to life-changing clinical applications.

Send CV & Cover letter to Shaya Parto at The Role As a Systems Engineer, you will be the technical linchpin for the hardware and software implementation of our proprietary stimulation platform. You will work at the intersection of power electronics, electromagnetics, and clinical neuroscience. This role requires a unique blend of high-level systems thinking and prototyping—moving seamlessly from FPGA control logic to machine shop fabrication.
Key Responsibilities Hardware Development & Integration :
Design, iterate, and integrate core system architecture, including switch-mode amplifier current sources, magnetic induction coils, and active coil cooling systems.
Control Systems :
Develop and refine FPGA-based control systems and integrated sensors to ensure hard real-time control and system safety.
Prototyping & Fabrication :
Lead the "build-test-learn" cycle. You will be responsible for basic circuit assembly and machine shop work to create functional, high-reliability prototypes.
Software & Interface :
Utilize LabVIEW for system control and Python/Matlab for data analysis; collaborate with clinicians to optimize the graphical user interface (GUI).
Lifecycle Documentation :
Write documentation for the build processes of successive device generations and creating comprehensive User & Troubleshooting Guides for clinical partners.
Regulatory Compliance :
Maintain rigorous design controls and risk management files to support future FDA/CE Mark submissions.
Qualifications Required Education :
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on hardware/medical devices.
Technical Proficiency :
◦ Expertise in LabVIEW for hardware control and instrument interfacing. ◦ Strong scripting skills in Python or Matlab for simulation and data processing. ◦
Hands-on Fabrication :
Demonstrated ability in basic circuit building (soldering, PCB assembly) and manual machine shop tools.
Mindset :
The "startup grit" to solve complex, multidisciplinary problems and a deep passion for improving patient lives through medical innovation. Preferred Experience in an R D-heavy biotech or early-stage startup environment. Background in power electronics (amplifiers) or high-field electromagnetic induction systems. Experience supporting hardware in a clinical trial or laboratory setting.​
