Videos Duties Help The Biomedical Engineer (Research ) serves as Director of BioPrinting and is responsible for the Research BioPrinting Program the Ralph H Johnson VAMC. Ralph H Johnson VAMC has affiliions with the Medical University of South Carolina and joint operions with nearby DoD installions. The BioPrinting Research Program aligns with the initiives of the VHA Office of Research and Development (ORD)Mission. Typical duties include, but are not limited to: The incumbent provides management and technical expertise to Executive Leadership (Associe Chief of Staff, Research Service; ACOS-R) for all issues relive to BioPrinting. Assists with the determinion of organizional changes in key positions within the program; ensures internal personnel-reled programs are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner; communices agency and local policies and priorities to all employees within the program. Assists in the development long-range plans for new and complex programs; works with top management to develop long-range management plans, for the efficient and effective operion of BioPrinting; makes best use of present resources, plans for future needs and implemention of new resources; assists with the coordinion of all requests for additional resources, working closely with others to pull together comprehensive short-range and long-range plans. Assists with implemention of nional policies the local level and uses knowledge required for the position to reduce broad and non-specific guidelines to practical applicion. Technical authority, capable of creing guidelines, policies, and draft directives for use the local, VISN and nional level in the area of BioPrinting. Assesses situions th are compliced by conflicting or insufficient da th must be analyzed to determine the applicability, efficiency, and effectiveness of established and/or innovive methods. Incumbent works with the ACOS-R, Physicians, Scientists, employees and their representives, outside contracting agencies, engineers, architects, public sector department heads, engineers and managers other VAMCs, VISN personnel, VACO personnel, ORD, other federal agencies, members of academia and industry, and members of the prive sector.

Qualificions Basic Requirements :
United Stes Citizenship :
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency . Biomedical Engineers must be proficient in spoken and written English. Educion and/or Experience . The individual must meet either item (1) or (2) to meet this requirement: (1) Bachelor's Degree or Higher in Engineering. To be creditable, the curriculum must be from a school of engineering with least one curriculum accredited by the Accredition Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), as a professional engineering curriculum. Examples of acceptable engineering degrees include: Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biochemical Engineering. Titles may vary from educional institutions and change over time. OR , (2) Certificion as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) and a bachelor's degree not listed in item 3.b.(1) above. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfhering Provision as described in the VA Qualificion Standard for this occupion (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupion and meet the criteria). All persons employed in VHA in this occupion, on the effective de of this qualificion standard, are considered to have met all qualificion requirements for the title, series and grade held, including positive educion, and/or certificion/registrion th are part of the basic requirements of the occupion. For employees who do not meet all the basic requirements in this standard, but who met the qualificions applicable to the position the time they were appointed to it, the following provisions apply: (1) Such employees in an occupion th does not require a certificion/registrion, may be reassigned, promoted, or demoted within the occupion. Grade Determinions :
GS-14 Experience . Completion of least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower level and must fully meet the KSAs th level. At the GS-13 level the biomedical engineer (research) is responsible for conducting biomedical research involving significant engineering concepts and applicions as an investigor; serving as senior author in the preparion of manuscripts published in peer-reviewed archival journals; serving as principal investigor on competitive research proposals for funding by Federal and non-Federal peer reviewed sources; dissemining research findings the local facility, and interacting with clinicians and clinical biomedical engineers. Ability to apply approprie scientific methods in the design and execution of basic and applied research in the field of biomedical engineering, Ability to coordine work across multiple settings, e.g., medical centers, universities, Ability to convey scientific biomedical engineering concepts and methodology to individuals with various levels of technical expertise. Demonstred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities . In addition to the experience above, the biomedical engineer (research) must demonstre the following KSAs Ability to provide formal clinical, research, and/or educional consultion to multidisciplinary staff. Knowledge of the legal, ethical, and professional standards applicable to clinical research in the field of biomedical engineering. Knowledge of budget control procedures th including funding from multiple sources and may vary annually. Assignment . At this level, the biomedical engineer (research) designs and supervises biomedical research projects, including the assembly and supervision of an investigive team; has a record of publicion as a senior author on manuscripts published in peer-reviewed archival journals; participes in the peer-review of manuscripts in archival journals; has a record of funded, competitive research proposals by Federal or non-Federal peer-reviewed sources; dissemines research findings the VISN, nional, and internional level; and participes in the mentorship and training of junior researchers and investigors.
