Job Description
The Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS/CCSDS) plays a critical role in device management, patient education, remote monitoring review, and clinical reporting to physicians to support optimal patient outcomes and device performance. Cardiac Device Specialists manage implantable cardiac devices through in-office interrogation, remote monitoring analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation in collaboration with cardiology providers. This is a high-volume, autonomous role best suited for someone with a strong electrophysiology (EP) background who is comfortable working independently in a fast-paced private practice environment. This position supports a 14-provider cardiology practice across four clinic locations. The Device Clinic operates out of two primary locations and manages a high-volume device population through in-office visits, remote monitoring. Clinic Volume and Workflow Up to 35 in-office device patients per day Approximately 200 remote transmissions reviewed per week Daily event monitoring for new onset arrhythmias and device alerts Device clinic supports 14 providers across the practice Work performed across two device clinic locations Essential Duties and Responsibilities Device Interrogation and Programming Perform in-office interrogation and programming of pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, and implantable loop recorders Identify device abnormalities including battery depletion, lead issues, arrhythmias, and device malfunctions Report significant findings to provider and assist with care coordination Generate device reports for physician review Remote Monitoring Management Review and interpret remote transmissions and alerts Manage approximately 200 remote transmissions weekly Perform daily event monitoring and alert review Troubleshoot monitor connectivity, phone applications, and transmission issues with patients Patient Care Educate patients on device function, remote monitoring, and follow-up schedules Provide post-procedure follow-up care including wound checks, staple removal, and pressure dressing application Assist patients with monitor setup, reconnections, and device-related concerns both by phone and in office Administrative Responsibilities (Approximately 20%) Scheduling device clinic appointments and follow-ups Billing, charging, and documentation Charting and EMR documentation Maintain device clinic records and reports Device Manufacturer Systems Must be proficient with all major cardiac device manufacturers and monitoring platforms including: Medtronic Boston Scientific Abbott (St. Jude) Biotronik Sorin To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education High school diploma or equivalent required Licensure/Certification Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS/CCSDS) - IBHRE certification BLS certification required Experience 2+ years of cardiac device clinic experience Experience with EMR systems and remote monitoring platforms Prior clinical cardiology experience preferred; new graduates considered with clinical competency Technical Training Formal training and board certification as listed above Skills and Abilities Strong electrophysiology (EP) background and experience with cardiac rhythm management devices Experience with cardiac device interrogation, programming, and remote monitoring Ability to interpret arrhythmias and device diagnostics Ability to manage a high-volume clinic environment Strong documentation and organizational skills Language Requirement Ability to interpret clinical documents, protocols, and instructions Effective verbal and written communication skills with patients and staff Computer Skills Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) and device management software Basic word processing and general office software skills Personal Skills Strong patient-service and interpersonal abilities Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills Reasoning Ability Ability to assess clinical information and apply protocols to patient situations Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills Physical & Mental Requirements Intermittent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and sitting Intermittent pushing/pulling of equipment/patients up to 440 lbs. and assisting patients onto exam tables Frequent use of hands, fingers, and fine motor skills Required visual abilities: near/far vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment Quiet clinical environment with patient-care duties
