Our products are used by over 1,000 fire departments, as well as military and educational institutions across the U.S. and internationally. In addition to our training systems, we provide contract manufacturing solutions to a diverse set of industries. Since 1997, we have maintained a fast-paced, quality-driven environment where continuous improvement and problem-solving are part of everyday performance. Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Designer is responsible for creating and updating product and component designs, using SolidWorks CAD software, in an onsite manufacturing environment. The Mechanical Designer will perform design calculations, manufacturability analysis, and use product design & function specifications to deliver product designs that meet our customers' needs. Responsibilities Design and Documentation Create 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks based on sketches, specifications, technical data, and customer requirements. Utilize advanced SolidWorks features including Weldments and Sheet Metal tools. Create fully detailed 2D mechanical drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD for in-house manufacturing and outside fabrication. Review and revise drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, compliance with company standards, regulations, and product specifications. Maintain drawing and model libraries and archives per Fireblast standards. Product Development & Design Engineering Streamline product designs using lean manufacturing practices, engineering calculations, manufacturability analysis, material/component selection, and customer requirements. Develop new product concepts to maximize training value for firefighting academies. Select appropriate off-the-shelf components ensuring proper fit, form, and function. Perform analytical and experimental testing on new products to verify operation and improve product performance. ERP & Data Management Maintain engineering-related portions of the ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics NAV). Create and maintain part numbers, bills of materials (BOMs), and routings. Manufacturing & Production Support Support manufacturing and installation teams throughout the product lifecycle from fabrication to final installation. Conduct manufacturing audits, answer technical questions and RFIs, and verify proper product installation. Coordinate with the purchasing department to procure parts and materials for new products. Additional Requirements Maintain full compliance with company policies and procedures and conduct all activities in accordance with the Fireblast Guide to Business Conduct. Support the organization's goals and values. Support Lean and 5S initiatives. Participate in daily continuous improvement projects. Perform other related duties as required. Success Metrics On-time delivery of design projects Document traceability Manufacturability of designs Technical accuracy Required Skills Proficiency in AutoCAD AND SolidWorks 2D drafting and 3D modeling programs. Strong computer and math skills. Strong communication skills. Strong coordination and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. High attention to detail ERP system experience Preferred Background 2+ years of experience as a Mechanical Designer. Associate's degree or certificate in design, engineering, or related field, preferred. Experience in the steel fabrication industry is desirable.
Pay:
$30.00 - $36.00 per hour
