What You Will Do The Engineering Services Division (ES-DO) of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions that enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. Engineering Services - Weapons Project Delivery (ES-WPD) is seeking a skilled and experienced Designer/Drafter to join our team in support of implementing projects within facilities at LANL in support of systems, structure and component modifications and new installations. This position supports nuclear, accelerator or non-nuclear facilities across 38 square miles of the Laboratory. Designer/Drafter 5 ($85,900 - $139,900) As a Designer/Drafter 5, you will be working as part of a design team assessing, providing design and drafting support aimed at maintaining and upgrading facility systems at LANL.Regular functions include but are not limited to: creating detailed three-dimensional and two-dimensional facility designs, producing calculations and design recommendations; developing initial design solutions for new facilities, additions, renovations and repairs for Engineer review and approval; functioning for and contributing to a strong team-work environment; mentoring junior-level drafters. In addition, you'll continue to expand your knowledge and experience by:- Advancing knowledge in understanding engineering design
- Leading other Designers and Drafters
- Training and mentoring junior designers
- Providing organizational improvements and leadership

What You Need Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Skills- Expert proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
- Expert level understanding of modeling and drawing drafting principals, application of standards, symbols, notes, GD&T on drawings and models to capture design intent. Demonstrates consistent excellence in application of standards, dimensioning schemes, materials, codes and production methods.
- Expert knowledge of principles for design, fabrication, assembly and fielding of components and mechanisms
- Expert knowledge of schematics, and facility equipment
- Expert knowledge of engineering materials and their suitability for component design and manufacture Discipline-Specific Knowledge
- Expert knowledge of engineering, design, and drafting concepts related to a mechanical, electrical or structural disciplines
- Expert knowledge of ASME, ANSI, AWS and related industry standards for addressing fit, form and function. Subject matter expert of industry, regulatory policies pertinent to one or more engineering disciplines. Teamwork and Communication
- Recognized as lead on team and subject matter expert on collaboration of designs, from rough sketches with minimal guidance from a senior level technician
Education/Experience:
Position requires an Associate's Degree in an Engineering or Technical field and 7 years of related experience, or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.Desired Qualifications:

Salary Range:
$85,900 - $139,900 Job Duties for Learning Specialist 3:- Working with customers, stakeholders and regulators to assure training programs meet customer needs, regulatory drivers and contractual requirements.
- Assisting with developing, implementing, and maintaining training documents and records, both physical and electronic.
- Researching complex training and education issues and recommending sound, practical solutions.
- Assisting with developing, implementing, and maintaining compliant and high-quality course materials such as live classroom, on-the-job and/or web-based training for diverse audiences.
- Developing and/or conducting classroom training and OJT as assigned.
- Using UTrain occasionally to design, build and implement training programs, as well as tracking completion of training assignments; using UTrain data to provide customized reporting that adds value to the business needs of the organization served.
Salary Range:
$114,700 - $191,200 In addition to the duties listed for Learning Specialist 3, candidates at the Learning Specialist 4 level will be:- Participating in assessments, incident investigations, root cause analyses, data analysis, project management, or critiques, as assigned.
- Performing various administrative functions in conjunction with or in support of operational program compliance, including planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of training activities.
- Participating in knowledge preservation, capture, and transfer projects in support of learning deliverables as desired by the customer.
- Follow the LANL Conduct of Engineering (CoE) Program in support of facility modifications and facility configuration management
- Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and the customer(s) to assess, maintain, improve, and replace facility equipment.
- Support the installation of new and replacement equipment including review of project design details, equipment data sheets, equipment selection, calculations, installation instructions / specifications, post-modification testing and commissioning procedures, etc. to satisfy the applicable design requirements.
- Qualify as Pressure Safety Officer and support work planning, hazard control, and abnormal event responses and investigation. Mechanical Engineer 3 ($114,700 - $191,200)
- Additional duties at the Engineer 3 level include (list is not all-inclusive):
- Assist in defining maintenance requirements including corrective maintenance and the tracking and trending of system performance.
- Define and maintain technical baseline criteria and documents in support of facility configuration management.
- Support associated safety analyses and hazards evaluations.
