AutoCAD Operator Summary The AutoCAD Operator at Clark Contractors, Inc. is responsible for preparing and revising technical drawings for architectural, structural, and civil engineering site plan projects. This role supports engineers, architects, estimators, and project managers by producing accurate 2D plans, details, and construction documents that align with project requirements, codes, and company standards. The AutoCAD Operator also assists with project document review, quantity takeoffs, cost estimate support, and bid preparation under supervision. Core Capabilities Strong knowledge of AutoCAD drafting for architectural, structural, and civil/site development documents. Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, sketches, markups, survey data, and technical notes. Proficiency in preparing 2D plans, details, construction documents, drawing revisions, and as-built updates. Ability to assist with quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, bid documentation, and data analysis under supervision. Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and time management skills in a deadline-driven environment. Job Duties 1. Drafting and Drawing Production o Create and update AutoCAD drawings for architectural floor plans, elevations, details, structural drawings, and civil engineering site plans. o Prepare accurate 2D plans and construction documents based on project requirements, company drafting standards, and project team direction. 2. Plan Review and Document Coordination o Interpret sketches, markups, specifications, survey data, redlines, and technical notes from architects, engineers, and project teams. o Review project documents to identify drawing requirements, missing information, design conflicts, or coordination concerns. 3. Civil/Site Plan and Permit Support o Assist with site layout drawings, grading and drainage plans, utility plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and related civil details. o Support permit, bidding, and construction phases by preparing plan revisions, as-builts, and supplemental drafting as needed. 4. Estimating and Bid Support o Assist in preparing cost estimates, performing quantity takeoffs, and reviewing project documents under supervision. o Support senior estimators with bid preparation and data analysis while collaborating with project teams to confirm scopes, quantities, and drawing details. 5. Quality Control and Revisions o Revise drawings promptly based on internal review comments, client feedback, permitting requirements, and construction phase needs. o Perform quality checks to verify dimensions, labels, references, scales, notes, and general drafting accuracy. 6. Project Communication and File Management o Maintain drawing files, templates, layer standards, title blocks, and document control procedures. o Communicate potential design conflicts, unclear information, or needed revisions to the project team in a timely manner. Requirements Education:
Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent training in drafting, design technology, engineering technology, construction management, or a related field preferred. Experience:
Experience preparing drawings for architectural, structural, and civil/site development projects; construction drafting, quantity takeoff, or estimating support experience preferred. Software Proficiency:
Proficiency in AutoCAD required; experience with Civil 3D, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and other construction or estimating software is a plus. Skills:
Strong attention to detail, organization, mathematical and analytical ability, time management, and effective written and verbal communication skills. Other Requirements:
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment; position is primarily office-based with occasional field visits to verify site conditions or support project coordination.
