Job Title:
CAD Drafter Job Description This role offers the opportunity to work within an established A/E consulting firm as a CAD Drafter specializing in water and wastewater projects. You will use AutoCAD MEP to develop and design detailed mechanical and electrical drawings in close coordination with Design Engineers, supporting complex treatment facility projects and contributing to a highly specialized, niche area of engineering. Responsibilities Develop detailed design drawings for water and wastewater projects in coordination with Design Engineers. Set up drawings according to established CAD standards and project-specific requirements. Coordinate with client CAD requirements to ensure deliverables meet all technical and formatting standards. Draft mechanical and electrical drawings, including process piping, electrical distribution, and control systems for water and wastewater facilities, with approximately 70% of the work focused on electrical design and 30% on mechanical design. Support the development of plumbing and fire protection layouts related to water and wastewater treatment projects as needed. Perform field validation of drawings alongside the Design Engineer to confirm accuracy and incorporate as-built conditions. Collaborate with engineers and project team members to resolve design issues and incorporate feedback into drawing revisions. Maintain organized drawing files and documentation in accordance with company and client standards. Essential Skills 3-5 years of CAD drafting experience, preferably within an architecture/engineering (A/E) firm. Proficiency with AutoCAD MEP for developing mechanical and electrical design drawings. Experience producing mechanical and electrical drawings for water and wastewater projects. Ability to follow and apply established CAD standards and client-specific CAD requirements. Strong attention to detail in creating accurate process piping, electrical distribution, and control system drawings. Capability to perform field validation of drawings in collaboration with Design Engineers. Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineers and project stakeholders. Organizational skills to manage multiple drawings and revisions across concurrent projects. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working directly on water and wastewater treatment facility design, wastewater engineering, or wastewater design projects. Familiarity with plumbing and fire protection design in the context of treatment facilities. Experience with additional CAD and design platforms such as Revit and MicroStation. Background in electrical design and mechanical design for infrastructure or industrial projects. Exposure to working in a multidisciplinary A/E consulting environment. Interest in developing a specialized, niche career in water and wastewater treatment facilities. Motivation to pursue continued learning, professional development, and relevant licenses or certifications with company support. Work Environment You will work in a collaborative office environment with approximately 21 team members, fostering close interaction with engineers and other design professionals. The standard schedule runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a flexible arrangement, and Fridays are designated as work-from-home days. The dress code is business casual. The culture emphasizes a family-like atmosphere, with bi-monthly lunches, potlucks, seasonal events such as a 4th of July barbecue and a holiday party, and additional social gatherings hosted by leadership. The firm focuses on long-term growth rather than project-based hiring, offering strong stability, profit sharing, and stock opportunities that can lead to employee ownership. Many employees have long tenures, and a significant number of licensed Professional Engineers on staff creates a rich environment for mentorship and learning, particularly in the specialized field of water and wastewater treatment facilities.
