We specialize in thoughtfully designed outdoor environments that balance aesthetics, function, and constructability. Our work emphasizes clear process, collaborative design, and high-quality execution from concept through installation. Position Overview Charter Oak Landscape Development is seeking a Design Assistant / Draftsman to support our design team with technical production and documentation. This role focuses on translating design concepts into clean, accurate, and construction-ready drawings. This position is ideal for someone highly detail-oriented who enjoys the technical side of design, thrives in structured workflows, and takes pride in producing organized, precise drawing sets. Key Responsibilities Technical Production Produce CAD drawings including planting plans, hardscape layouts, and construction details Develop and maintain construction document sets Apply firm standards for file organization, layering, and annotation Assist with quantity takeoffs and basic layout calculations Design Support Translate redlines and markups into finished drawings Support designers with revisions and updates Assist in assembling presentation and permit drawing sets Coordination Coordinate drawings with irrigation, lighting, and grading concepts Work with design and project management teams to ensure accuracy and clarity Update drawings throughout project lifecycle as changes occur Qualifications Required 1-4 years of CAD drafting experience (landscape, architecture, or related field) Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (Land F/X strongly preferred) High attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to follow established standards and workflows Strong time management and ability to handle multiple tasks Preferred Experience with residential landscape plans and construction documentation Familiarity with irrigation and planting plans Understanding of construction detailing and layout principles Work Structure & Growth Technical-focused role with clear expectations and workflow structure Opportunity to grow into a design role if desired Close collaboration with experienced designers and project managers Exposure to full design-build process and construction implementation Position Details Part-time to Full-time position In-office (Visalia, CA) preferred Compensation based on experience and qualifications This is an on-site position only, no remote work. Applicants must be located in the Central Valley; candidates outside this area will not be considered.
