Mechanical Designer Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Take complex engineering designs from conception through manufacture and build
Successfully communicate and collaborate with engineers and scientists throughout the design process
Create engineering models and drawings using Creo/Windchill
Prepare clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detail drawings from layouts, rough, or detailed sketches and from written or verbal instructions
Perform tolerance stack ups to assure proper fit in assemblies
Check detail drawings of peer designers to assure compliance with engineering codes and drafting standards
Work Arrangements:
Full-time, Monday-Friday, onsite at the STS Project Office
Hybrid or remote work will be considered, but can not be guaranteed
Work will be performed under the general supervision of the
STS Design Services Manager Basic Qualifications:
Associates degree in an engineering discipline with a minimum of 8 years' relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and design experience may be considered instead of an associate's degree.
At least 3 years using Creo and Windchill PDM/PLM
Experience working with Creo skeletons and top-down design
Working knowledge of creating model annotations within Creo
Knowledge of the technical concepts of drafting and engineering principles, codes, and standards
Expert knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Ability to effectively communicate design concepts to engineers and other designers
Preferred Qualifications:
Design for manufacturing experience
Experience working in an accelerator or nuclear environment
Experience working in a team environment with other designers on large assemblies comprised of thousands of parts and sub-assemblies
Experience in weldment design and American Welding Society (AWS) symbology
Experience in communicating with vendors and fabricators
