Full Job Description Job Summary:
The MEP Drafter is responsible for creating detailed Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing designs for restaurant construction projects. Using AutoCAD and Revit, the role involves designing and coordinating HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems tailored to restaurant needs. The MEP Drafter works closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of systems and compliance with building codes.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Utilize AutoCAD and Revit or other relevant tools to design and create detailed drawings for the MEP systems (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) of restaurant projects. Design HVAC systems, ductwork, electrical systems, and plumbing, tailored to the unique needs of restaurant spaces, including kitchen layouts, ventilation, and utility connections. Develop comprehensive electrical layouts, including lighting plans, power distribution, panel schedules, circuiting, and load calculations to support restaurant equipment and operational needs. Coordinate and design power systems for kitchen equipment, dining areas, and external components like signage and outdoor seating areas. Ensure proper integration of electrical systems, including emergency power systems, lighting controls, and energy-efficient solutions. Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure designs align with restaurant operational requirements and are delivered on schedule. Review architectural plans and integrate MEP systems to ensure seamless coordination and compliance with design intent. Actively incorporate feedback from internal and external stakeholders to update designs, maintaining accuracy and functionality. Perform clash detection to ensure that electrical conduits, panels, and other MEP components are fully integrated with other building elements. Prepare and update as-built drawings to reflect completed installations accurately. Interpret and convert between metric and imperial systems as required for the project, ensuring compliance with project specifications. Stay up to date with local building codes, electrical safety standards (such as NEC compliance), and best practices specific to restaurant construction. Maintain organized version control and document management for drawing files, ensuring all project files are accessible and up to date. Collaborate with construction and operations teams to address challenges during the project lifecycle and ensure timely and efficient implementation. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, with experience creating detailed MEP drawings. Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems specific to restaurant design. Candidates must be able to interpret drawings in both the metric system (millimeters) and the imperial system (inches) and accurately convert between the two as required for project needs. In-depth knowledge of building codes, electrical safety standards (e.g., NEC compliance), and industry best practices. Ability to perform clash detection and ensure seamless integration of MEP systems. Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to incorporate feedback and maintain accurate documentation. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain clear communication with project teams.
Education/ Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification in AutoCAD, Revit, or other drafting software is preferred.
- Proven experience in MEP drafting and design, particularly in restaurant or commercial construction.
- Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) tools is a plus.
- Must be willing to travel frequently to different restaurant locations across the U.S.
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese.
