Job Description

Drafter Location:
Smithfield, RI Position Summary:
The Drafter is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and design layouts for fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) products and custom fabrication projects. This role works closely with engineering, sales, project management, and production teams to ensure accurate drawings are developed and released for manufacturing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Create, modify, and maintain detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for custom fiberglass products and fabrication projects. Interpret customer specifications, engineering sketches, and project requirements. Prepare shop drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs). Collaborate with engineering, production, and sales teams to ensure designs meet customer and manufacturing requirements. Review drawings for accuracy, dimensions, material specifications, and manufacturability. Revise drawings based on project changes and customer feedback. Maintain drawing files, revisions, and engineering documentation. Assist with estimating and project planning by providing technical drawing support. Ensure compliance with company quality standards and drafting procedures. Support continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering and production departments.
Qualifications:
Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years of drafting or CAD experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software. Strong understanding of technical drawings, geometric dimensioning, and tolerancing. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Experience with fabrication, composites, fiberglass, or manufacturing processes is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods. Ability to occasionally visit the production floor and manufacturing areas. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when necessary.
