Job Title:
Drafter Job Description The Drafter develops detailed structural steel drawings and material lists from architectural and structural design documents, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project requirements. This role collaborates closely with project stakeholders, supports the resolution of design discrepancies, and contributes to a strong, growth-focused team environment. Responsibilities Develop detailed structural steel drawings and comprehensive material lists based on architectural and structural design documents. Review project documentation, including plans, addenda, and specifications, to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements. Produce precise piece drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel components. Verify dimensions, materials, and part relationships to ensure constructability and compliance with the design intent. Coordinate with project stakeholders such as project managers, engineers, fabricators, erectors, and vendors to support successful project execution. Prepare and submit requests for information (RFIs) to clarify design details and address information gaps. Assist in resolving detailing conflicts or design discrepancies in collaboration with the project team. Monitor and track detailing weight compared to contract requirements throughout the project lifecycle. Participate in team meetings to discuss safety, workload planning, and project status updates. Perform occasional site visits to confirm field conditions and verify measurements when needed. Essential Skills Degree in Architecture Drafting or a closely related drafting discipline. 2-4 years of experience in drafting, preferably with exposure to structural or architectural projects. Proficiency in drafting and CAD tools to produce detailed structural and miscellaneous steel drawings. Strong understanding of architectural and structural design documents, including plans, addenda, and specifications. Ability to interpret and translate design intent into accurate and constructible drawings. Attention to detail in verifying dimensions, materials, and part relationships. Ability to prepare and manage RFIs to address design questions and discrepancies. Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with project managers, engineers, fabricators, erectors, and vendors. Organizational skills to monitor and track detailing weight against contract requirements. Willingness and ability to perform occasional site visits to confirm field conditions and measurements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with structural steel detailing and miscellaneous steel components. Background or interest in architecture, structural design, or related fields. Ability to contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Interest in professional growth and long-term career development within a drafting and design setting. Work Environment This is an in-person role in a collaborative, team-oriented environment where employees are encouraged to grow and develop their skills over time. The position involves regular office-based drafting and design work using CAD and related drafting technologies, participation in team meetings focused on safety, workload planning, and project status, and occasional site visits to verify field conditions and measurements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sioux Falls, SD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
