Job Description

Reports To:
Technical Manager The Chemical Engineering Intern will primarily support engineering and operations-related projects at the Chicago site, with an emphasis on project coordination, documentation, and execution support for small, straightforward capital and expense projects. This role is intended for a chemical engineering student interested in gaining practical experience supporting projects and working cross-functionally within a chemical manufacturing environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
(May include but not limited to) Support small capital and expense projects through scope definition, coordination, tracking, and basic status reporting. Assist engineers with coordination of activities between engineering, operations, maintenance, contractors, and suppliers. Maintain project documentation such as action item lists, schedules, cost tracking summaries, purchase orders, and closeout documentation. Support procurement activities including requisitions, purchase order tracking, and coordination of material delivery. Participate in project meetings, prepare agendas and meeting notes, and track follow-up actions. Perform data gathering and basic engineering calculations or analysis to support project justification and execution. Assist with Management of Change (MOC) documentation, reviews, and approvals as required for projects. Support development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), engineering drawings, and other technical documentation impacted by projects. Prepare clear technical summaries, reports, and presentations for project stakeholders and leadership. Perform limited field work as needed to support project execution, including site walkdowns, data collection, and coordination with operations. This may involve lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, and using basic hand tools. Adhere to all site safety, environmental, and quality requirement.
SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Ability to work safely in an industrial manufacturing environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (sophomore level or higher preferred). Interest in supporting small capital projects and applied engineering work in an industrial environment. Ability to read or develop basic engineering drawings; experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
