Lead Process Engineer - Position and Responsibilities As a Lead Process Engineer in the Food/Beverage industry with Middough, you will collect and prepare data and information along with performing detailed engineering calculations. In this role, you will also perform engineering design and analysis on complex or unique problems and will coach/develop less experienced engineers, designers, and drafters. As the Lead Process Engineer, you will demonstrate technical/professional growth annually by maintaining active membership in professional organizations and participating in technical seminars/courses. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Participate in business development efforts including meetings and presentations to demonstrate and convey technical expertise and industry knowledge to both potential new and existing clients. Serve as a Project Lead for more complex projects by estimating work hours, developing scope of work, making staffing recommendations, and checking project deliverables prior to issuance. Support development of project scope, budget and schedule for all process related work and coordinate with other internal project teams to assist in equipment layout of processing systems. Interface with client team counterparts to develop process design on projects of varying complexity. Collect and prepare data/information, perform detailed engineering calculations, and write formal engineering/technical reports. Develop technical specifications and data sheets, perform technical evaluation of bids, and recommend best value design which meets client requirements for operability, reliability, maintainability, and safety. Provide field leadership work by checking installations and problem-solving activities. Perform calculation checking and vendor drawing reviews. Provide guidance and support to colleagues on food and beverage processing requirements. Coach process project team members. Interact with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information. Education, Experience and Skills The successful candidate will possess the following: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering required. 20+ years of experience performing basic engineering analysis and design functions. Experience with process flow drawing (PFD) and P&ID development preferred. Experience with process steady state modeling (HYSYS, AspenPlus, etc.) preferred. Experience in the design, construction or operation of sugar candy, chocolate, chewing gum, ice cream, cereals, spices, baked goods, snacks, dairy products, beverages, sauces and prepared food processing facilities Thorough knowledge of food safety and sanitary design and knowledge of food and beverage industry standards, practices, and regulations. Experience with the development of process design basis and select unit operations, the preparation of mass and energy balances, and the preparation of hydraulic and thermal calculations. Experience with application, sizing, and specification of process equipment (mixers, cookers, ovens, vessels, pumps, agitators, heat exchangers, filters, separators, clean-in-place, conveyors, dryers, filling, packaging, and emission control units) and utility equipment (boilers, compressors, filters, chillers, cooling towers, and water treatment systems). Experience working with equipment supply and technology vendors to identify, specify, purchase, review submittals and incorporate data into designs. Experience with equipment procurement support and bid evaluation. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail abilities. Excellent multitasking and organizational abilities for project efficiency. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
