Production Chemist Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Production Chemist to join our team on the 2nd shift from 2:00 PM to 10:30/11:00 PM. This role involves performing chemical synthesis on a multi-kilo scale, maintaining documentation to meet GMP standards, and collaborating with Chemical Engineers to produce R D API. Responsibilities Perform chemical synthesis on a multi-kilo scale and execute via batch record. Maintain documentation standards to meet GMP requirements, including recording charges/transfers and acknowledging actions as they are performed. Document key observations related to specific operations. Set up, operate, and clean all plant equipment such as reactors, centrifuges, filter dryers, shelf dryers, and milling equipment. Participate in staging raw materials, loading them into equipment, and unloading intermediates and products from dryers. Read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively in a group setting. Collaborate with Chemical Engineers to produce R D API. Essential Skills Experience in blending, GMP, GLP, pharmaceutical quality, and chemistry. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and familiarity with reactors, centrifuges, chromatography, and wet chemistry. Ability to read batch records and lift up to 50 pounds. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and manual compounding. Associates or Bachelor's degree in chemistry or engineering preferred. Computer proficiency required. Experience in a production facility, preferably in chemical, pharmaceutical, or food industries. Willingness to handle chemicals with engineering and safety controls in place. Mechanical aptitude and basic math proficiency. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt to changes. Additional Skills & Qualifications SAP experience is a plus. Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing is advantageous. Experience working with reactors is beneficial. Willingness to undergo annual physical and drug screening. Work Environment This position operates on the 2nd shift from 2:00 PM to 10:30/11:00 PM, with initial training on the 1st shift. The role requires extended periods of standing, moderate physical activity, and the use of a respirator. Our company is small but growing, with new opportunities from recent acquisitions. The work environment includes a small production area, an R D lab connected to a QC lab, and a collaborative team of over 25 people. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Morton Grove, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
