Process Engineer - LCLA 2200 Bayou Dinde Pass, Westlake, LA 70669 Full-time Full-time Position Summary This position focuses on designing process flows and equipment layout for new or revised chemical process operations and designing, communicating, and implementing operational plans for completing engineering-based projects. Essential Job Functions § Designs project controls and specifications, schedules, cost estimates, production, transportation, installation, testing and/or commissioning of new infrastructure, facilities, equipment. § Monitors progress and performance against project plans; takes action to resolve operational problems and minimize delays § Identifies, develops, and gathers resources necessary to complete project § Preparing engineering standards, designs and work specifications; develops project schedules, budgets, forecasts; selects materials, equipment § Designs equipment processes that change the chemical properties of materials and ingredients (e.g., heating/cooling, oxidation, fermentation, hydrogenation, polymerization, etc.) § Plans sequence of operations and specifying procedures for preparing materials and operating equipment § Determines process design by balancing process cost, yield, worker safety/comfort, and material waste considerations § Conducts tests throughout all stages of processing; determines control over applicable variables (e.g., temperature, pressure, density, viscosity, etc.) and troubleshoot/solve process § Works with outsourced engineers; requisitions assistance as requested § Liaises with various engineers, planners, operations personnel, and other departments as necessary § Assesses safety and environmental issues as required; ensures safe working conditions and compliance with health and safety legislation § Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EHSS principles and values; champions safety at all times; participates in and/or leads safety teams or projects as appropriate § Performs other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. Experience & KSA's Required § 1-5 years' experience as an Engineer § Minimum of 1 year experience in chemical plant preferred § Prior monomer or ethylene plant operations experience preferred § Ability to research best chemical plant practices; knowledge of plant safety, health, and environmental requirements for engineering § Ability to read engineering, construction and other technical specs, drawings, schematics, plans, and similar documents; § Knowledge of and ability to understand complex government regulations and translate/incorporate requirements to chemical manufacturing plant § Ability to translate technical plans into easy-to-understand laymen's terms and communicate such translations in clear terminology § Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards in process engineering § Proactive and highly organized; detail-oriented; strong analytical and problem-solving skills a must § Time management and organization skills; flexibility; ability to work well in fast-paced environment § Analytical and mathematical skills, quick thinking; solid understanding of main principles of engineering and manufacturing processes required § Comfortable with integrating new technology into an existing business environment § Experience working with Federal, state and local environmental regulations including RCRA § Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on assignments § Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems and other programs and applications used by this position and at Company § Fluent in English language including reading, writing and speaking; ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organization Education Requirement § Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering § Professional Engineer certification highly desired § Six Sigma certification or work experience preferred Competencies § All Company Core Competencies Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employee may experience range of temperatures from -10 degrees F to 100+ degrees F when outside. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE. The employee may be required to climb ladders/tanks/towers up to 200' in height. The employee may be required to enter confined spaces. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee could be required to travel by air, rail, bus, car, or other mode of land transportation.
