Job DescriptionJob Description Horizon Analytical | Columbia, Missouri | Full-Time, On-Site About the Role Horizon Analytical is seeking a skilled Lyophilization Technician to join our pharmaceutical operations team. This role is central to the production of high-quality peptide formulations, with primary responsibility for executing freeze-drying cycles under strict aseptic conditions. The ideal candidate brings hands-on lyophilization experience, a rigorous attention to detail, and a strong foundation in sterile processing. Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain pharmaceutical-grade lyophilizers throughout all phases of the freeze-drying process, including freezing, primary drying, and secondary drying.
  • Execute validated lyophilization cycles for peptide formulations while adhering to established Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform aseptic filling, loading, and unloading of lyophilizers within ISO-classified cleanroom environments.
  • Conduct routine equipment qualification checks, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting in coordination with the engineering and QA teams.
  • Document all batch activities in accordance with cGMP requirements, including batch records, deviation reports, and environmental monitoring logs.
  • Support cycle development and optimization efforts for new peptide products in collaboration with formulation scientists.
  • Participate in cleanroom gowning qualification, media fills, and environmental monitoring programs.
  • Assist in investigation of deviations, OOS results, and CAPA implementation as needed. Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • One to five years of direct lyophilization experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, or compounding pharmacy setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic technique, including gowning, material transfer, and sterile manipulations within ISO 5 and ISO 7 environments.
  • Working knowledge of c
GMP, USP
797 and USP 800 compliance standards.
  • Experience interpreting and executing batch records, SOPs, and validation protocols.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods during cleanroom shifts. Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Prior experience with peptide formulation, fill-finish operations, or sterile injectable manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with lyophilizer control systems from manufacturers such as SP Scientific, IMA, or Millrock.
  • Experience with process analytical technology including manometric temperature measurement and residual moisture analysis.
  • Understanding of stability testing, container closure integrity, and reconstitution behavior of lyophilized products.
