Montana Advanced Composites (MAC) manufactures advanced composite materials for aerospace and other high-performance applications. Our operation depends on disciplined process control, material traceability, and consistent execution to meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. We are committed to a safe, technically rigorous, and continuously improving manufacturing environment. MAC is seeking a Process Engineer to support composite material manufacturing operations with primary responsibility for process stability, product conformity, and continuous improvement. This role owns process performance on assigned manufacturing lines, supports troubleshooting and root-cause investigations, leads validation of process and equipment changes, and helps ensure compliance with aerospace customer requirements and AS9100-aligned quality system expectations. The ideal candidate brings hands-on manufacturing support, strong analytical capability, and experience working in a controlled production environment. Objectives of this role Maintain technical ownership of assigned manufacturing processes, with emphasis on safety, process stability, repeatability, and product conformity Improve process capability, yield, throughput, and scrap performance through data-driven analysis and structured continuous improvement methods Develop and sustain robust process controls for critical manufacturing parameters including material handling, resin content, temperature, tension, line speed, and cure-related variables where applicable Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Technology teams to support production readiness, new product introduction, and operational excellence Responsibilities Provide day-to-day engineering support for composite manufacturing processes, including troubleshooting process deviations, nonconforming product, and equipment-related issues affecting safety, quality, yield, and uptime Define, document, and optimize process parameters, standard work, control plans, and operating procedures to maintain stable and repeatable production Monitor process and quality metrics using SPC, capability analysis, and other statistical tools to identify variation, improve yield, and reduce scrap Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to internal defects, rework, customer issues, and recurring manufacturing problems Support qualification and validation of new materials, tooling, equipment, and process changes, including trial planning, technical documentation, and implementation Partner with Quality and Operations to maintain compliance with customer specifications, traceability requirements, document control practices, and AS9100-aligned manufacturing expectations Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing, PFMEA, and structured problem-solving methods to improve safety, delivery, cost, and process capability Train and support production personnel on process discipline, defect recognition, reaction plans, and escalation of abnormal process conditions Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline 3+ years of engineering experience in composite materials, polymer processing, prepreg manufacturing, converting, coating, or a related manufacturing environment preferred Experience working in an aerospace, regulated, or high-specification manufacturing environment with familiarity with AS9100 principles preferred Working knowledge of composite raw materials, resin systems, fiber handling, process validation, and manufacturing documentation Experience with structured problem solving and statistical tools such as SPC, MSA, capability studies, and DOE Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, PFMEA, control plans, and engineering change management in a production environment Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment; experience with Infor XA a plus Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document technical findings and work cross-functionally Hands-on, detail-oriented approach with the ability to work both on the production floor and in technical analysis/reporting activities
