Job Description

Position OverviewThe Controls Systems Engineering Supervisor will lead a small team in the development of advanced electronic control systems for commercial vehicle applications, including axle, suspension, and braking solutions. This role is responsible for supervising and mentoring a highly technical team while providing deep technical expertise in embedded controls, system architecture, validation, and standards compliance. The position plays a critical role in defining product strategy, ensuring system safety and reliability, and delivering integrated hardware, software, and calibration solutions throughout a structured product development lifecycle. This is a "hands-on" supervisor role.

Key ResponsibilitiesBuild, lead, and develop a team responsible for designing and executing electronic control system strategies.

Provide technical leadership in embedded controller programming, operator interface design, system integration, and validation of hardware and software solutions.

Drive continuous improvement through team development, process optimization, and elimination of inefficiencies.

Develop technical specifications for commercial vehicle axle, suspension, and brake control systems.

Manage the delivery of integrated hardware, software, and calibration solutions in alignment with a structured phase-gate development process.

Establish and maintain engineering standards, procedures, performance metrics, and documentation requirements for electrical and controls engineering.

Lead Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) activities for control systems in intended vehicle applications.

Oversee system-level validation testing and troubleshooting across multiple development stages.

Guide the development of advanced embedded sensing and control systems, such as load-based suspension control, tire pressure management, and auxiliary vehicle systems.

Develop, approve, and execute comprehensive Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R), coordinating internal teams and external partners for validation testing at SIL, HIL, component, and vehicle levels.

Serve as the primary technical authority for electronic controls, supporting organizational leadership on product strategy, sourcing decisions, and future technology initiatives.

Act as a subject matter expert for embedded controllers, safety-critical systems, and control architectures.

Oversee development and application of software validation tools, including model-based development environments such as MATLAB and Simulink.

Maintain awareness of evolving industry standards, technologies, and best practices through professional networks and industry engagement.

QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in vehicle or embedded control systems development, including hands-on technical contributions.

Prior experience managing and mentoring teams of technical professionals.

Strong background in automotive or commercial vehicle control systems, including ABS, electronic braking, stability control, or related systems. (will also consider AeroSpace experience as well)Proven expertise in embedded software development using C or model-based design methodologies.

Experience developing and validating safety-critical embedded systems.

Hands-on knowledge of SIL, HIL, component-level, and full-vehicle validation methodologies.

Proficiency with data acquisition, simulation, and analysis tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, dSPACE, and CAN analysis software.

Deep understanding of vehicle electrical architectures and communications protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, Ethernet, J1939).Familiarity with wireless communication protocols such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, RF, or similar technologies.

Experience leading DFMEA initiatives and applying structured problem-solving methodologies.

Working knowledge of relevant industry standards and functional safety guidelines.
