Job Summary Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Process Engineer is responsible for developing and troubleshooting plant process systems including the implementation of process strategies, managing process resources, identifying and optimizing critical process variables and conditions, and maintaining process documentation while focusing on the continuous improvement of manufacturing unit operations resulting in best in class safety, quality, productivity, and customer service standards. Essential Responsibilities Provide engineering support to improve manufacturing unit process flows, process capability, production yields, overall cost of goods sold, equipment reliability, waste minimization, and EH&S improvements through data-based decision making. Provide day to day support to the manufacturing teams including the observation and analysis of production runs, root cause investigation of off-standard production runs, and the development of sustainable corrective actions. Maintain and/or identify ways to improve the quality of our products, and adherence to quality standards, through continuous process improvement and operating procedure enhancement. Identify and drive technical improvements for processes through the collaboration with on-site teams including regular interaction with the manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, EH&S, and quality functions. Generate ideas, plans to enhance the performance of the manufacturing units, (e.g., process, rate, yields) and quality improvement through lean manufacturing concepts. Stimulate operations personnel to think outside the boundaries. Investigate and troubleshoot problems that arise from customer concerns and process deviations of both new and current products. Be the technical liaison between new product development initiatives and the integration of them into manufacturing unit operations. Develop de-bottlenecking plans to improve product quality/volume increase to attract new products to the plant. Develop and lead the implementation of new operational excellence initiatives, lean manufacturing principles, production systems, techniques for improved efficiencies, and improvement and adherence to defined best practices.
Conduct:
(a) new process evaluation / optimization projects, (b) process capability studies, (c) HAZOP studies, (d) process safety reviews, (e) custom toll manufacturing opportunity evaluations, and (f) Process DOEs . Prepare requests for the appropriation of capital funds for process improvements including process upgrades and new installations. Ensure EH&S compliance with company, government, and outside agency requirements as they relate to process improvements. Provide backup to the applicable Production Manager relating to production reporting, decision-making, and directing the work of department employees during any absences. Conformance with the Valtris Quality and EH&S policies and awareness of ISO 9001 and RC14001 management system requirements applicable to this position. Responsible for managing MOCs, RCCA for ESHCARs and ISOCARs for the applicable Production Unit. Required Qualifications High commitment to safety Bachelor of Science degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent 3 - 5 years process engineering experience, preferably in a chemical plant Ability to manage and lead both strategic long-term projects, as well as address short-term operational issues Lean manufacturing, six sigma experience preferred Strong communication skills, both written and oral Strong analytical, technical and strategic thinking skills Microsoft Office knowledge We offer a competitive salary and benefit plans focused on the well-being of our employees.
