Job Description

Our client, a leading steel service center and fabrication organization, is seeking a Process Engineer to support enterprise-wide operational improvement initiatives across manufacturing, logistics, and fabrication operations. This role will focus on process optimization, continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and process standardization within a fast-paced industrial environment. The organization is actively modernizing operations through improved process discipline, data-driven decision-making, and operational transformation initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with plant leadership and cross-functional teams to drive measurable improvements in throughput, quality, safety, and cost performance. Position Summary The Process Engineer will design, improve, and optimize production and logistics processes while supporting continuous improvement efforts across operations. This individual will partner with operations, fabrication, maintenance, quality, distribution, and leadership teams to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and establish sustainable process controls and operational standards. The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing hands-on production floor engagement with analytical problem-solving and data analysis. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys driving operational improvements through both technical expertise and strong collaboration with frontline teams. Key Responsibilities Analyze current production and operational workflows to identify opportunities for improved throughput, safety, quality, and efficiency Design and implement future-state processes, standard work procedures, and process controls Lead continuous improvement initiatives including Lean, 5S, Kaizen, and waste reduction activities Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for operational and process-related issues Troubleshoot process bottlenecks and collaborate with maintenance and production teams to resolve equipment and workflow challenges Develop time studies, labor models, and capacity analyses to support operational planning and throughput goals Recommend process, staffing, tooling, equipment, and layout improvements to increase efficiency and productivity Partner with operational technology and data systems teams to validate production data and support process improvement initiatives Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions, visual management tools, and operator training materials Support the implementation and sustainment of process controls and operational standards Partner with quality teams to support compliance initiatives, audit readiness, and adherence to customer requirements Monitor and report operational KPIs including OEE, scrap, rework, cycle time, yield, and throughput metrics Present improvement initiatives, findings, and performance updates to plant leadership and cross-functional stakeholders Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field preferred Experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment Strong understanding of process design, process optimization, and operational workflows Experience with Lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement methodologies, and process standardization Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets Familiarity with statistical analysis, process control methods, and manufacturing performance metrics Hands-on approach with the ability to work directly on the production floor and collaborate with operations teams Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and train cross-functional teams Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Preferred Qualifications Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping, or capacity planning Exposure to PFMEA, control plans, and new process or equipment implementation Experience within steel processing, fabrication, heavy manufacturing, or industrial production environments preferred Familiarity with fabrication processes such as cutting, forming, welding, and material handling systems Work Environment Daily interaction with manufacturing, fabrication, and industrial production environments Ability to work on the production floor around active machinery, material handling equipment, noise, dust, and industrial operations Must be comfortable collaborating directly with operators, supervisors, maintenance teams, and plant leadership Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a practical, data-driven engineer who enjoys solving operational challenges and improving manufacturing performance through collaboration, process discipline, and continuous improvement. This individual is comfortable working both on the shop floor and with operational data, and is motivated by driving measurable improvements in efficiency, safety, quality, and throughput.
