Someone in this role would typically have a bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience. This position can be hired at any level in our professional career framework, depending on business need at the time of hire.
  • International travel may be required. Straight time overtime, 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off), and/or 1 day of telework per week may be available
  • REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related field and a minimum of one (2) year of experience.
  • Experience with thermal analysis tools such as but not limited to Thermal Desktop, COMSOL, Ansys Fluent, or similar industry standard software.
  • Proven experience in thermal analysis and design for aerospace systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.
  • Strong capability to assess and validate thermal designs for technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Familiar with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures.
  • The ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.
  • Experience in the design, analysis, testing, certification, and operation of space PTCS systems and components, which may include but are not limited to multilayer insulation (MLI), thermal blankets, surface coatings, radiators, heat pipes, and other passive thermal hardware during pre-launch, flight, and post-landing phases.
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop is .
  • Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent maybe a requirement for this position. Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation. Some of your major responsibilities will include:
  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity thermal models using tools such as Thermal Desktop and
SINDA/FLUINT.
  • Perform steady-state and transient thermal analyses for spacecraft components and integrated systems.
  • Evaluate thermal performance under various mission phases, including launch, transit, lunar orbit, and quiescent modes.
  • Support thermal verification activities, including test planning, data analysis, and model correlation.
  • Collaborate with design teams to optimize thermal control strategies (e.g., insulation, heaters, radiators) and provide guidance on thermal considerations.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and anomaly investigations.
  • Document analysis results and present findings to internal stakeholders and NASA customers.
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on NASA and vendor thermal designs to ensure compliance with requirements and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as required.
