Job Description:
Senior Process Engineer - Utilities & Solvent Recovery Systems Job Summary We are seeking a technically strong and hands-on Senior Process Engineer to lead the design and execution of complex utility and solvent recovery systems within pharmaceutical and industrial process facilities. This role requires deep expertise in process engineering, hydraulic analysis, flammable/combustible material handling, and distillation technologies, with the ability to drive engineering solutions from concept through construction support. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with practical field awareness, capable of independently solving challenging process design issues while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams. Key Responsibilities Lead process engineering design activities for utility and solvent recovery systems in pharmaceutical and industrial facilities. Perform advanced hydraulic calculations and flow modeling for process and utility systems.
Develop comprehensive engineering deliverables including:
Process Design Basis Process Specifications Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) Utility Schematics Equipment Datasheets Control Philosophies Design and engineer distillation systems for solvent recovery applications, including Pressure Swing Distillation and related separation technologies. Execute pressure relief system analysis and Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) sizing calculations. Develop process solutions involving flammable and combustible liquids in compliance with applicable safety and regulatory standards. Interface directly with clients, vendors, package equipment suppliers, construction teams, and operations personnel to ensure technical alignment and successful project execution. Support equipment selection, process optimization, troubleshooting, commissioning, and startup activities. Conduct technical reviews to ensure compliance with GMP, safety, environmental, and industry code requirements. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers. Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to process safety, reliability, operability, and system performance. Required Technical Skills & Qualifications Strong expertise in process and utility system hydraulic design and analysis. Advanced knowledge of process equipment design, specification development, and datasheet generation. Extensive experience designing systems involving flammable and combustible materials. Deep understanding of solvent recovery and distillation technologies, including: Pressure Swing Distillation Fractionation Vapor recovery systems Waste solvent handling Experience with industrial chemical processing facilities, including: Bulk chemical storage Waste collection systems Distillation operations Emissions control and abatement technologies Proficient with engineering and process simulation software including: Aspen Plus Pipe-Flo AutoCAD Bluebeam Microsoft Excel Strong working knowledge of applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements including:
GMP ASME BPE ISPE
Baseline Guides
ASTM E2500 OSHA EPA DOT
Ability to work independently on technically complex assignments with minimal oversight. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and multidisciplinary coordination skills. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering discipline required. 5-8 years of relevant engineering experience with a degree, or 9-12 years of equivalent industry experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, or industrial process facilities. Demonstrated experience in utility system design involving flammable and combustible processes. Experience supporting detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup phases preferred. PE License and/or certifications such as ISPE, PMP, or Six Sigma are highly desirable.
