Process Engineer Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for continually monitoring, measuring and improving process control, influencing department cost of production, quality metric analysis and schedule attainment in support of plant financial plan. Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods and processes within capital budget. Interact with production team, sales, customer service and executive staff concerning product design, specifications and tooling to ensure consistent production Communicate with vendors, suppliers and customers to determine critical raw material properties and product specifications. Create the specifications, requirements and guidelines for the procurement of equipment, materials and/or component parts. Perform engineering tests and evaluations of materials and products according to customer specification and quality standards needed to produce manufacturable products. Communicate throughout the organization regarding manufacturing capability, production schedules and ability to achieve production throughput at acceptable quality levels. Apply statistical methods to determine process capability and demonstrate process control. Apply strong problem solving skills to improve manufacturing processes, overall efficiency and profitability. Write, implement and educate production team to work instructions for all manufacturing processes. Work with Customer Operations and Production Management to resolve customer, process and/or raw material issues impacting product performance or manufacturability. Positively influence at all levels within and outside the organization. Clearly communicate project status, risks, and scope creep with impact to all stakeholders on a regular basis. Ability to work safely in an industrial environment; must be able to assess and minimize risk potential of new chemistries and processes Excellent project management and organizational skills required to develop detailed project timelines with key milestones and deliverables Works well in team environment and possess the excellent interpersonal and communication skills needed to work effectively in cross-functional teams to drive project from lab-to-commercial scale Demonstrate safe practices; maintain a safe and orderly production environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong technical background in polymer science/chemistry with demonstrated track record of supporting a manufacturing environment. Minimum two years of work experience in a manufacturing environment. Ability to establish process controls to achieve customer and internal product quality and lead time requirements. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems via root cause analysis (5 whys, pareto, SPC, six sigma and Lean tools)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION 8+ years industrial, 3+ years supervisory experience in project management and PM tools (FMEA, RACI, Microsoft Project, Stage Gate, etc.) BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or Material Science Results-oriented,displays a strong bias for action, takes ownership for projectsand is serious about delivering on commitments. Strong technical and organizing skills. Good interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal. Self-starter; takes the initiative and is able to perform job functions with a minimum level of both technical and administrative supervision.
