Job Description
Job Title:
CVD Engineer Job Description The CVD Engineer supports advanced semiconductor manufacturing by developing, optimizing, and sustaining Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) processes for thin-film deposition in high-aspect-ratio structures. This role focuses on achieving excellent film uniformity, low defectivity, and consistent tool matching across multiple deposition platforms in a high-volume manufacturing environment. The engineer works hands-on with leading CVD tools, collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, and drives continuous improvement to enhance yield, uptime, and overall process performance. Responsibilities Troubleshoot process and equipment excursions by analyzing SPC trends, tool logs, and metrology data to rapidly restore process stability and yield. Lead troubleshooting of CVD process deviations, chamber hardware issues, and vacuum-related faults using root-cause analysis and statistical methods. Develop, optimize, and sustain CVD thin-film processes used in logic and memory device fabrication, including advanced nodes and 3D NAND structures. Own and manage key process performance metrics such as thickness uniformity, film quality, defect density, and process capability. Support day-to-day fab operations by addressing process excursions, resolving tool alarms, and investigating yield issues. Drive vendor model alignment and implement tool-to-tool matching strategies to ensure consistent performance across multiple platforms. Collaborate closely with Equipment Engineering, Yield Engineering, Integration, and Production teams to solve complex manufacturing challenges. Support new tool installations, qualifications, and transfers from vendors into full production. Analyze SPC data and perform root-cause analysis using statistical and engineering methodologies to improve process robustness. Create, maintain, and update documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process change records. Lead continuous improvement projects focused on cost reduction, equipment uptime, process robustness, and yield enhancement. Work effectively within a vendor-integrated, high-volume manufacturing fab to meet production and quality targets. Essential Skills Strong understanding of Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) fundamentals, including gas-phase reactions, film growth mechanisms, and chamber chemistry. Expertise in contamination control within CVD chambers and related equipment. Hands-on experience working with Applied Materials, Lam Research, and/or Tokyo Electron (TEL) deposition platforms. 5 plus years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a closely related semiconductor process engineering role. Experience depositing insulation, spacer, or protective films in deep trenches and high-aspect-ratio structures. Knowledge of interactions between process chemistry, hardware configuration, and device performance. Ability to read, interpret, and act on process data, tool logs, and metrology results. Proficiency in analyzing SPC data and applying statistical methods for root-cause analysis. Ability to troubleshoot CVD process deviations, chamber hardware issues, and vacuum-related faults. Comfort working in a vendor-integrated, high-volume semiconductor manufacturing fab. Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong problem-solving skills with a structured approach to root-cause analysis and continuous improvement. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Equipment Engineering, Yield Engineering, Integration, and Production. Clear and concise communication skills for documenting processes, writing SOPs, and presenting findings. Comfort with data-driven decision-making and the use of engineering methodologies to optimize processes. Interest in working with cutting-edge equipment and leveraging advancements in AI, automation, and data analysis. Motivation to grow within a fast-paced, innovation-focused semiconductor environment, with openness to ongoing training and mentorship. Work Environment The role is based in a high-volume semiconductor fabrication facility with a clean room environment designed for safety, efficiency, and high-quality manufacturing. You will work directly with advanced CVD deposition tools from major vendors and interact regularly with automation, metrology, and data analysis systems. The position follows compressed shift schedules that include 12-hour shifts: (1) Sunday to Tuesday and every other Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ('Front Half'); (2) Tuesday to Saturday and every other Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; (3) Sunday to Tuesday and every other Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.; and (4) Tuesday to Saturday and every other Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. You will work as part of supportive, multi-functional teams in a culture that values safety, quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
