The Role:
We're looking for a passionate and curious Principal Scientist, Bioreactor Process Design to join our team in our mission to expand access to biotherapeutics. As a Principal Scientist, Bioreactor Process Design at Just-Evotec, you'll have the freedom to ask the hard questions, think outside the box, and find creative solutions that push us forward to create robust biotherapeutics manufacturing process. As a Principal Scientist, you will oversee early and late-stage bioreactor process development supporting end-to-end continuous bioprocessing.
What You'll Do:
Lead a diverse group of scientists responsible for the development of early and late-stage upstream perfusion and intensified processes for biotherapeutics manufacturing utilizing statistical approaches such as Design of Experiments (DOE). Lead Upstream Process Characterization (PC) and support Process Validation (PV) efforts for late-stage programs in collaboration with other functional areas. Serve as an early-stage Project Team Lead (PTL) to execute client projects that involve other functional areas within CMC. Serve as a cell culture and bioreactor process Subject Matter Expert (SME) for large-scale GMP manufacturing process scale up. Prepare essential documentation to support tech transfers, GMP activities, and relevant regulatory submissions for clinical development and commercialization. Clearly and effectively communicate scientific information to relevant internal and external stakeholders. Author relevant SOPs and internal playbook enabling continuous improvement of company strategies and workflows. Drive technology development for process intensification and continuous manufacturing to reduce manufacturing costs and footprint through improvements in culture productivity, control of product quality, and data management. Train, mentor, and supervise staff and interns.
Who You Are:
BS/MS in Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or related field with 15+ years of experience or Ph.D. in Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or related field with 9+ years of experience. Expert in bioreactor operation and perfusion technology development. Prior experience with CMC sections authoring for regulatory filings. Experience with commercial process development, process characterization, and validation. Expertise in design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis. Experience with high throughput cell culture (e.g. HT assays, robotics such as Ambr systems, lab automation, or multi-omic data) is a plus.
Additional Qualifications:
Experience analyzing data in tools such as JMP, R, or Python. Flexibility to support weekend work (5-day work week/ 2 days off) and being on-call for critical bioreactor runs. General understanding of cell biology, fluid dynamics, and biotransport as well as knowledge in other functional areas (downstream purification and analytical sciences). Familiarity with cGMP or clean room setting. The role is non-GMP but knowledge of GMP is helpful for successful process tech transfer activities.

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $154,000 to $174,000; Base salary offered may vary depending on individual's skills, experience and competitive market value.
