Process Engineer:
Support quality, engineering and manufacturing by focusing on improving processes, product stability and runnability at the Plant and with customers. Position provides in-person support to a manufacturing facility. Play a key role in improving product quality and cost structure through the implementation of sound engineering and process controls, continuous improvement techniques. The position is the operations liaison with the Research and Development Department on new and improved product designs. The Process Engineer will also support environmental and safety functions of the Plant. Main responsibility areas- Maintain and expand SPC throughout the manufacturing process.
- Collect, analyze and monitor data on processes to ensure continuous reduction in product and process variability.
- Monitor and report on process and machine trials.
- Provide on-shift support during manufacture of specialty grades.
- Track process changes and record modifications to drawings.
- Provide supporting information to other departments for resolution of internal and customer issues.
- Lead and participate on problem-solving teams, facilitating the use of problem-solving techniques and tools.
- Identify excess waste in the manufacturing process and manage related cost reduction activities.
- Participate in selection, purchase and installation of equipment for the company.
- Support the continuous improvement process. Lead, support and actively participate on Kaizen events, pillars, and improvement teams.
- Participate in safety initiatives and quality systems.
- Performs and assists in any other related duties as assigned.
- Function as direct machine crew supervisor when required.
Education/Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Pulp and Paper plus 3 year's experience as a Process or Maintenance Engineer in the Pulp and Paper industry, or other related industry OR a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered. Ideal candidate shall possess: Understanding of SPC, papermaking process and equipment. Project coordination experience and solid troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of pumps, piping, electrical controls and interlocks, instrument loops, process flow, boilers, steam and condensate systems, and Process Hazard Analysis a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Solid computer skills- Microsoft Windows/Word/Excel/Auto Cad and ability to learn company software.
