Full Job Description Overview:
The Project Engineer is a multifunctional project leadership role responsible for supporting capital projects through project management, project controls, and field execution coordination. This role is designed to provide flexible project leadership within a lean project organization and may function as a Project Manager, Project Controls Lead, or Field & Technical Coordinator depending on project phase, complexity, and business needs. The role is responsible for coordinating engineering, construction, commissioning, and contractor activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with operational requirements. The position serves as a critical interface between contractors, site operations, engineering, maintenance, EHS, and leadership teams. The Plant Managers and/or VP of Manufacturing will provide overall direction and oversight of project activities. Duties /
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates all phases of capital projects from initiation through startup and handover.
  • Supports project governance, execution strategy, and contractor coordination activities.
  • Maintains oversight of project scope, budget, schedule, and risk management activities.
  • Facilitates communication between contractors, site teams, engineering, operations, maintenance, and leadership.
  • Reviews and validates project schedules, progress reports, and contractor performance metrics.
  • Supports change management activities including evaluation of scope, cost, and schedule impacts.
  • Manages and tracks RFIs, issue logs, action items, and escalation items.
  • Assists with field coordination activities to maintain workfront readiness and minimize execution delays.
  • Participates in design reviews, constructability reviews, HAZOPs, commissioning planning, and startup readiness activities.
  • Collaborates with project stakeholders to develop project plans, execution strategies, and resource requirements.
  • Evaluates project risks and supports mitigation planning to minimize operational and schedule impacts.
  • Coordinates pre-commissioning, commissioning, and turnover activities between contractors and site operations.
  • Prepares periodic project status reports including progress, cost, schedule, and risk updates for leadership.
  • Ensures compliance with company standards, engineering practices, environmental regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Supports contractor management activities including progress reviews, field coordination, and issue resolution.
  • Collaborates with operations and maintenance departments to ensure operability and maintainability requirements are incorporated into projects.
  • Supports project documentation management and ensures project records are properly maintained.
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintains awareness of
ISO 9001, ISO
14001, and
ISO 45001
standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills /
Abilities:
  • Strong CAPEX project execution and coordination knowledge.
  • Experience with project controls, budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, and change management.
  • Strong contractor and vendor management capability.
  • Knowledge of industrial construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering and construction activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software preferred.
  • Understanding of risk management, earned value, and project reporting methodologies preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ISO management systems and industrial safety practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in brownfield manufacturing environments.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial engineering, construction, CAPEX project management, project controls, or field coordination roles.
  • Experience supporting industrial capital projects in manufacturing or chemical plant environments required.
  • Experience working with EPC contractors preferred.
  • PMP certification preferred.
  • Manufacturing plant experience required.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as required by project activities.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to walk active construction and manufacturing areas.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Pay:
$110,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
