Job Description

Tesla is revolutionizing the world's energy and transportation systems through cutting-edge infrastructure. As a Construction Benchmark Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in establishing, validating, and optimizing construction performance standards across infrastructure projects. You will define measurable benchmarks for construction efficiency, quantities, hours, and costs—enabling data-driven decision-making, continuous improvement, and scalability across Tesla's rapidly expanding footprint. This role sits at the intersection of construction/industrial, data analytics, and process engineering. You will work closely with project managers, design engineers, self-perform, and cross-functional teams to standardize performance metrics, identify inefficiencies, and drive cost savings in construction execution.
Define and Implement Construction Benchmarks:
 Establish key quantity input and output metrics for construction phases (e.g.,pre development, development, active, closeout) across different project types (Gigafactories, Megapack sites, Supercharger hubs)
Data Collection & Validation:
Design and deploy systems to collect real-time construction data (labor hours, material, schedule of values, quantities, unit rates) from field teams and integrated project management tools
Performance Analysis & Reporting:
Analyze construction performance data using AI models and data visualization tools. Generate actionable insights and reports for leadership, highlighting trends, outliers, and improvement opportunities
Benchmark Calibration:
Continuously refine benchmarks based on project outcomes, technological advancements (e.g., modular construction, robotics), and regional variables (labor markets, supply chains, regulations)
Cross-Project Benchmarking:
Compare performance across multiple sites and projects to identify best practices and systemic inefficiencies. Promote knowledge sharing and standardization Collaborate with
Engineering & Operations:
Partner with design, procurement, and operations teams to align construction benchmarks with design intent, manufacturing requirements, and long-term asset performance
Support Digital Tools Development:
Work with software engineers to integrate benchmarking logic into Tesla's internal construction management platforms (e.g., Project management, Hours Tracking, BIM tools)
Drive Continuous Improvement:
Lead pilot initiatives to test new construction methods or technologies, measuring their impact against established benchmarks Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field, or the equivalent in experience 5+ years in construction engineering, project controls, or performance benchmarking within large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects (preferably in manufacturing, energy, or heavy civil) Proficiency in data analysis (Python, SQL, Excel Advanced), statistical modeling, and data visualization (Power BI) Experience with contractual construction requirements (Schedule of Values, T&M, Lum Sump) Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and digital twin concepts is a plus Proven track record in establishing performance metrics or KPIs in construction environments Ability to distill complex field data into clear, actionable insights Strong written and verbal communication skills to present findings to technical and executive audiences Experience working in high-speed, high-precision manufacturing or energy infrastructure environments (e.g., Energy, Cell Manufacturing, Refineries) is a plus Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $96,000 - $210,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
