The Opportunity We are conducting a confidential search for a licensed professional engineer to take on a hands-on leadership role within the firm's water infrastructure practice. This individual will manage and deliver projects involving treatment facilities, pumping stations, pipeline systems, and related conveyance infrastructure-from initial feasibility through final construction closeout. The position combines deep technical ownership with people leadership, offering the right candidate a platform to shape project outcomes while mentoring a small team of junior engineers and technical staff. Core Responsibilities Technical Delivery Lead or personally execute engineering analyses, hydraulic evaluations, and facility design for water treatment and distribution infrastructure projects Develop and oversee the production of feasibility assessments, technical memoranda, preliminary and detailed design packages, construction drawings, specifications, and cost projections Provide construction-phase engineering services, including bid evaluation, contractor correspondence and clarification responses, submittal reviews, and change order assessment Apply established engineering standards and sound professional judgment to resolve complex technical challenges, seeking senior guidance on novel or precedent-setting issues Project & Team Leadership Serve as the day-to-day project manager on one or more engagements: define scope, build work plans, establish budgets and timelines, and track progress against commitments Supervise, coach, and develop a small group of engineers and design support staff, providing technical direction and career mentorship Act as the primary client liaison on assigned projects-coordinating with owners, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and internal discipline leads to keep all parties aligned Monitor scope compliance and proactively communicate schedule or budget risks to stakeholders Communication & Thought Leadership Prepare clear, audience-appropriate reports and presentations that distill complex engineering data for decision-makers and non-technical stakeholders Maintain thorough and timely project documentation throughout each engagement Contribute to the firm's visibility through conference presentations, client workshops, or published thought pieces as opportunities arise Ideal Candidate Profile Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or closely related engineering discipline) Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in California, or the ability to obtain reciprocity promptly Eight to ten years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, and construction support of water infrastructure projects (or an equivalent combination of education and practice) Technical Proficiencies Strong command of hydraulic analysis, process design, and infrastructure engineering principles for municipal water systems Fluency with industry-standard design and productivity tools, including CAD platforms, geographic information systems, hydraulic/process modeling software, and the Microsoft Office suite Proven ability to manage project finances, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams simultaneously Personal Qualities Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to present to clients, boards, and agency staff Analytical thinker who approaches problems creatively and is comfortable navigating ambiguity Natural mentor and team builder-someone who elevates those around them Self-directed and highly organized, with the ability to balance competing priorities across concurrent engagements What the Firm Offers A genuinely distinctive workplace culture built around empowerment, creativity, and mutual support, not just corporate platitudes Structured leadership development, goal-setting programs, and mentorship from day one A comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement contributions, and performance-based incentives A collaborative environment where innovation is encouraged, and employees are treated as the firm's most important asset Apply in!!
