Job Description

OverviewLVI Associates is representing a respected San Francisco based structural engineering firm seeking a Project Engineer / Structural Engineer to join its leadership team. This individual will work closely with the Principals and senior leadership to strengthen long‑term client relationships, support strategic business initiatives, and drive high quality project delivery across a diverse portfolio.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex structural design challenges, mentoring engineers, and managing projects from concept through construction. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, technical depth, and an ability to balance hands‑on engineering with project management responsibilities.

Annual compensation for this full‑time position is anticipated to range from 100,000 to 145,000 based on experience. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced lateral and gravity analysis for wood, steel, concrete, masonry, and light gauge systems.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record on major projects and provide stamping of drawings.
  • Lead or support business development initiatives alongside the firm's Principals.
  • Prepare proposals, manage client relationships, and oversee coordination between clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and internal workflows across engineering staff and drafting teams.
  • Review and interpret technical documents such as geotechnical reports and civil plans.
  • Review shop drawings to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Conduct site visits, structural observations, and respond to RFIs and field conditions.
  • Issue field directives, prepare change orders, and support construction administration.
  • Prepare high level engineering reports through visual assessment and review of building documentation.
  • Mentor and develop staff engineers, fostering a collaborative and growth‑oriented environment.
  • Other duties as assigned. Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum 6+ years of structural engineering experience delivering projects such as commercial buildings, schools, multifamily, office, retail, warehouses, and large custom residences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • California PE license required.
  • Strong knowledge of seismic design and structural systems in steel, concrete, wood, light gauge steel, and masonry.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience including project coordination, client interaction, and business development.
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and time management skills.
  • High proficiency with structural analysis software such as RISA, ETABS, SAP, SAFE, and ADAPT.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to build long‑term partnerships and represent the firm professionally. Benefits
