Job description:
About the Role We're looking for a Commercial Paint Project Engineer who treats estimating and project management like a profession — not a clock-in, clock-out job. If you're driven to master your craft, own your numbers, serve customers relentlessly, and help elevate a company's performance, you'll fit here. You'll support commercial painting projects from takeoff through closeout. You'll learn our processes, improve them, and help us build a strong, loyal customer base. Expect responsibility early, accountability always, and the opportunity to grow into a top-tier estimator and project manager. Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Project Setup Perform accurate, detailed takeoffs and set up projects thoroughly and professionally. Procure plans (hard sets or digital) to ensure full understanding of project scope before bidding. Utilize company estimating software for all estimates; assist in improving production rates, pricing updates, and software accuracy. Develop bid strategies in alignment with company guidelines and senior leadership direction. Prepare scope letters and bid forms using Magnum's standard formats; meet customer deadlines. Maintain a complete and accurate bid log for management review. Project Management & Execution Manage projects proactively from award through completion. Address field-driven changes, change orders, and issues with urgency and professionalism. Support Foremen with problem-solving; escalate issues to the Superintendent when necessary. Ensure high customer satisfaction while protecting and maximizing project profitability. Become deeply knowledgeable about finishing products, processes, and crew capabilities. Customer Service & Relationship Building Build and maintain strong customer relationships through responsiveness, reliability, and professionalism. Address customer issues quickly and thoroughly to protect the company's reputation. Participate in client entertainment and company functions as part of relationship-building efforts. Help grow new accounts and stay informed about market conditions or challenges. Company Contribution Support company sales and profit goals through accurate estimating and strong project execution. Work aggressively to improve internal procedures, systems, and team performance. Represent the company with a polished, professional appearance and conduct. Uphold the company mission, values, and operational philosophy in all activities. Qualifications Experience in commercial painting, drywall, construction, or related trades (preferred). Strong analytical skills with attention to detail. Ability to read blueprints, specs, and construction documents. Competence with estimating software or a willingness to master it quickly.
