  • Full-time Job Overview The Project Engineer supports the planning, coordination, execution, and technical oversight of commercial construction and specialty systems projects.
This role works closely with project managers, field operations, vendors, general contractors, and customers to ensure projects are executed in accordance with contract documents, specifications, schedules, budgets, and company standards. The Project Engineer assists with estimating, submittals, material procurement, project documentation, technical review, and field coordination related to commercial overhead doors, dock equipment, specialty doors, access control systems, and related construction projects. Duties Assist with the estimating, planning, coordination, and execution of commercial construction and specialty systems projects. Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to ensure accurate project execution. Prepare and process submittals, Pre-bid RFIs, substitution requests, and other project-related documentation. Collaborate with project managers, field personnel, vendors, customers, architects, engineers, and general contractors throughout the initiation of the project. Assist with estimating labor, materials, equipment, freight, and subcontractor costs for new construction and tenant improvement projects. Review and analyze project scope, system layouts, hardware requirements, and installation details for accuracy and constructability. Support project scheduling and management while monitoring project progress to help ensure timelines and customer expectations are met. Conduct job site visits as needed to assist with project coordination, field measurements, troubleshooting, and quality control. Identify and help resolve technical, operational, and project-related issues in collaboration with project management and field operations. Track project costs, change orders, and budget impacts throughout the lifecycle of the project. Initiate and maintain project files, documentation, and records in accordance with company standards. Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety requirements, project specifications, and company policies. Analyze processes and recommend improvements to increase operational efficiency, project quality, and customer satisfaction. Assist project management team as needed for project success. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong understanding of commercial construction processes and project coordination, with an emphasis on pre-award procedures. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and construction/project management software. Knowledge of commercial overhead doors, loading dock equipment, access control systems, or related construction trades preferred. Understanding of OSHA safety requirements and general construction safety practices preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to travel to job sites, customer locations, and company facilities as needed. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to walk active construction jobsites and work in varying weather and environmental conditions when conducting site visits.
Education and Experience:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred. Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in construction coordination, project engineering, estimating, project management support, or related industry experience preferred. Experience within commercial construction, specialty trades, overhead doors, dock equipment, or related building systems strongly preferred
