Non-Exempt Summary:
Supports a wide range of engineering activities to assist in the successful completion of water and wastewater utility projects. Responsibilities include conducting analysis, assisting with design and plan review, interpreting data, supporting construction administration, and preparing technical reports and plans. This position works under the direction of senior engineering staff and plays a key role in development review, capital improvement projects, and utility system planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the analysis, design, and preparation of technical documents, reports, plans, permit submittals, and specifications for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including treatment facilities, distribution and collection systems, pump stations, and related infrastructure Support development review efforts, including review of plans, preparation of redlines and comments, and coordination with developers, consultants, and internal staff Provide technical support during construction, including site visits, field observations, data collection, and assistance with responding to RFIs and submittals Perform engineering calculations, system evaluations, and data analysis to support project design and decision-making Assist in the preparation and review of technical studies, capacity evaluations, condition assessments, and rehabilitation recommendations Support preparation of cost estimates, schedules, and project documentation Coordinate with internal departments, including operations, public works, and planning, to support project delivery and utility operations Assist with GIS, asset management, and data tracking efforts, including use of Esri tools and related systems Support permitting efforts and coordination with regulatory agencies as needed Assist with preparation of presentations, reports, and materials for internal and public meetings Provide general project support and assist senior engineering staff in execution of projects and programs Perform other duties as assigned
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Support implementation of capital improvement projects in accordance with Town master plans and standards Assist with coordination of engineering consultants and review of consultant deliverables Participate in project planning, scheduling, and resource coordination Assist in maintaining project records and documentation for compliance and tracking purposes Participate in field inspections and coordination during construction activities Support cross-functional coordination between engineering, operations, and development services
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong organizational, communication, and technical writing skills Basic knowledge of water and wastewater systems, including treatment, distribution, and collection systems Familiarity with engineering design principles, construction practices, and infrastructure systems Ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret technical data Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with GIS, CAD, or asset management systems preferred Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, contractors, developers, and internal staff Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a team environment Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Education/Experience and Licenses:
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, or related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program 2-8 years of relevant engineering experience Engineer Intern (EI) certification required or ability to obtain within 6-12 months Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred Valid Colorado driver's license
