Job Description

Borghesi Building & Engineering Co., Inc., Connecticut's premier commercial/industrial design-build contractor is seeking to fill our Senior Engineer position (CT P.E.). We are a full service design-build firm, developing projects from concept to completion. The position is the head of our design team, which prepare plans from the schematic design to final building construction plans. Our design department currently consists of three members, the Senior Engineer (P.E.), an Architectural Designer and a Site Designer. We offer competitive pay, comprehensive benefits and a professional work environment.
Responsibilities:
At BBE we prepare site, architectural and foundation drawings for the buildings that we design and build. The ideal candidate will have site design experience for all site components drainage, detention, site grading, soil erosion controls and permitting. A secondary component of the position is the design of the building foundations and occasional minor steel design. The candidate will work closely with and oversee the two other members of the design team. One design member's primary focus is the architectural design and building code compliance. The other teammate's primary focus is on the site design drafting (zoning/IW regulation research, initial grading plans, etc.). You will also work with our sales/ project development staff as well as our construction project managers. The sales/project development staff meets with the prospective clients to determine their needs and convey them to the design team. The sales team does hand sketch drawings to convey the owner's concepts to the design department. The sales team works with the client through contract signing and project permits. Once the project is signed it is turned over to one of our construction project managers who work with the clients and subcontractors through the construction process. You will work with the project managers to finalize construction details that will be incorporated into the final drawing package. A typical project involves preparation of conceptual site and building plans (floor plans & elevations) of sufficient detail to prepare a solid project estimate to determine if the project is viable. If the project is viable, we will proceed with final site plans and details necessary for local land use approval. The sales/project development team presents the plans to the town boards. Once land use approvals are in hand, we develop the final construction building plans consisting of foundation plans, building code compliance plans, floor plans, elevations, and wall sections. Should any CT DEEP permits be required, we will prepare or oversee consultants who prepare the permit package.
Qualifications:
Candidate must be able to prepare drainage designs (detention, water quality, and piping) reports for land use approvals. CAD experience is required. Structural design experience is highly desirable. You will need to be able to review structural steel drawings prepared by metal building manufacturers and incorporate/coordinate with our drawings. Effective communications skills are required to work with in- house staff, town staff and consultants. A Connecticut Professional Engineering License and a Bachelor of Science Civil Engineering are required. A valid Connecticut driver's license.
