Competitive Pay; Rate Not Listed Position Summary The Project Engineer supports the planning, scheduling, cost control, administration, and successful execution of large, complex construction projects. This position is responsible for managing key project controls, coordinating materials, equipment, subcontractors, schedules, billing, contract documentation, and quality control activities. The Project Engineer works closely with Project Managers, Project Superintendents, field engineers, subcontractors, clients, and project teams to support safe, efficient, and financially sound construction operations. This is an experienced-level position ideal for a construction engineering professional with project controls, scheduling, cost management, and heavy civil construction experience. Key Duties and Responsibilities Oversee and provide direction to onsite Field Engineers. Schedule and coordinate Quality Control Team activities. Interact with subcontractors regarding project requirements, schedules, and work activities. Maintain and update project schedules, including materials, equipment, and subcontractor activities. Order required project materials and confirm delivery schedules. Prepare and distribute transmittal letters while maintaining accurate logs of submission, return, and approval dates. Schedule and arrange equipment mobilization and demobilization to and from jobsites. Support and manage project billing activities. Prepare change orders and claims for review by the Project Manager. Compare project results against previous budgets in coordination with the Project Superintendent and Project Manager. Verify monthly accruals, revenue, project costs, and other financial information. Assist the Project Manager in defining and optimizing construction means and methods. Maintain and revise contract documents as required. Ensure administrative and accounting information received from the field is accurate and reliable. Participate in final project acceptance activities with the Project Manager. Maintain and promote a safe working environment for employees, subcontractors, and project partners. Attend meetings, communicate with clients, and prepare required statistical or project status reports. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Demonstrable previous experience as a Project Engineer or in a comparable construction project controls position. Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent relevant work experience. Minimum of two years of experience as a Construction Scheduling Engineer, Project Controls professional, or related construction engineering position. Basic civil engineering knowledge and understanding of construction project execution. Familiarity with construction industry practices, project scheduling, cost tracking, billing, change orders, and contract documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with jobsite supervisors, field employees, subcontractors, clients, and project management personnel. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and resolve complex project control issues. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting road, highway, bridge, asphalt, concrete, or heavy civil construction projects. Experience with field engineering supervision and quality control scheduling. Experience preparing change orders, claims, budgets, cost comparisons, and project billing. Experience working directly with clients and subcontractors. Proficiency with project control and construction management software. Computer and Software Skills Qualified candidates should possess strong computer skills, including proficiency with: Microsoft Excel Primavera scheduling software SAP Microsoft Office applications Construction project reporting and document tracking systems Physical Requirements Qualified applicants must be able to safely perform the physical responsibilities of the position, including: Sitting and/or standing during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Occasionally stooping, bending, walking, crouching, and climbing. Frequently lifting at least 25 pounds and carrying up to 15 pounds. Walking frequently on uneven surfaces, natural ground, and slopes in varying weather conditions. Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and stair towers when required. Performing work at heights of up to 60 feet, including areas with narrow steps and passageways. Maintaining continuous mental attention to complete detailed project tasks accurately and efficiently. Possessing adequate close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment The Project Engineer may work in both field and office environments associated with active construction projects. Work conditions may include:
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Exposure to noise, dirt, dust, grease, and other conditions commonly associated with construction projects. Regular work near heavy equipment and moving machinery. Exposure to materials commonly found on construction sites, including form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mixed concrete.
