Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented professional to support our sheet metal and metal fabrication operations serving industrial manufacturing facilities. This role will be responsible for estimating and material takeoffs for miscellaneous fabricated equipment including tanks, hoppers, chutes, platforms, and piping systems. The position will also manage material procurement, welding documentation, turnover packages, and quality documentation for fabricated and installed systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in industrial fabrication, piping systems, welding procedures, and project documentation, with the ability to coordinate between shop fabrication, field installation, vendors, and customers. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Material Takeoffs Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for fabricated equipment including: Tanks Hoppers Chutes Ductwork Structural supports Miscellaneous sheet metal and plate fabrication Industrial piping systems Review drawings, P&IDs, customer specifications, and field measurements. Develop labor and material cost estimates. Solicit and evaluate vendor quotations. Material Procurement Procure raw materials, fittings, valves, structural steel, sheet/plate, piping, and specialty fabrication components. Issue purchase orders and coordinate deliveries to shop and job sites. Maintain relationships with vendors and negotiate pricing. Track lead times to support fabrication schedules and project deadlines. Verify materials meet project specifications and quality requirements. Welding & Quality Documentation Maintain welding procedures and welder qualification records.
Coordinate and maintain:
WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications) PQRs (Procedure Qualification Records) Welder continuity and qualification logs Assist with compliance related to fabrication standards and customer specifications. Turnover & Project Documentation Develop turnover packages for newly installed piping and fabricated systems.
Assemble project closeout documentation including:
Hydrotest records Material certifications (MTRs) Weld maps and weld logs Inspection reports As-built documentation QA/QC records Maintain organized project files and customer submittals. Shop & Project Coordination Coordinate between fabrication shop personnel, field crews, vendors, and customers. Support project scheduling and fabrication sequencing. Assist with field measurements and site visits as required. Qualifications Experience in industrial fabrication, piping, mechanical construction, or sheet metal fabrication. Ability to read fabrication drawings, piping isometrics, and mechanical plans. Knowledge of welding procedures, welder qualifications, and QA/QC documentation preferred. Experience with estimating and material takeoffs. Understanding of industrial materials including carbon steel, stainless, alloys, piping, and plate fabrication. Strong organizational and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software preferred. CAD experience is a plus. Preferred Background Mechanical engineering technology, fabrication, welding technology, industrial construction, or estimating experience. Experience in industrial plants, fabrication shops, or mechanical contracting environments preferred.
