POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined Building Engineer to join our facilities team at a commercial property in Schaumburg. This role focuses on keeping building systems running efficiently while delivering responsive support to tenants and ensuring operational excellence across the property. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, comfortable working independently, and able to travel to remote locations as needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, pumps, motors, air handlers, and related mechanical equipment Diagnose and repair minor mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and energy management systems Complete work orders and service requests in a timely and professional manner Conduct daily inspections of building systems to ensure optimal performance Assist with seasonal changeovers and equipment startups/shutdowns (boilers, chillers, cooling towers) Maintain mechanical rooms and equipment areas in clean, safe condition Coordinate support for vendors, contractors, and capital improvement projects Document maintenance activities, inspections, and inventory usage accurately Respond to after-hours emergencies and participate in rotating on-call coverage Travel to remote or satellite locations as required to support facilities operations
REQUIREMENTS
2+ years of experience in commercial building maintenance or facilities management Working knowledge of HVAC systems, BAS controls, and general building operations Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude Proficient with digital CMMS / work order management systems Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined mechanical spaces High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school certification a plus EPA 608 Universal certification preferred Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Self-motivated with the ability to manage priorities independently in the field
