Job Description

The Transit Oriented Development (TOD) department seeks to hire an exceptional candidate with a background in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a similar area. TOD oversees a diverse portfolio of projects, working on or adjacent to MBTA property. TOD is responsible for ensuring construction safety, successful delivery of new assets, and compliance with all relevant building code, standards, specifications, and directives. This position will support the Manager of Construction TOD and Deputy Director of Project Support in monitoring and reviewing construction submittals, attending construction meetings, ensuring construction safety practices are followed, monitoring construction projects' adherence to MBTA standards, specifications, and directives, and assisting in other program support activities as needed. The most qualified candidates would be enrolled in a graduate program in the field of architecture, engineering, construction management, or a similar area (and have relevant academic or job experience in the same field). The most qualified candidate would also have above average skills in professional communication, reviewing construction submittals, and excellent understanding construction safety, logistics, and management. We are looking to hire one (1) co-op student, who will work full-time (40 hours per week) for six (6) months with a minimum of two (2) days in-office and three (3) days remote. Organize, collect, and document construction information. Review drawings, work plans, submittals, and other construction documents, working with Project Managers and Manager of Construction. Assist in monitoring construction safety, successful delivery of new assets, and compliance with relevant MBTA standards, specifications, and directives. Perform occasional site visits to ensure compliance with all departmental policies, guidance, and procedures. Assist in organizing, analyzing, and tracking TOD program data. Assist in quarterly reporting. Participate in team / staff meetings, organization events, fieldwork, project teams, or other duties as needed. Additional responsibilities may include focusing on one or more departments or locations. See applicable addendums or hiring manager for department or location specific functions. Provide internal and external customers with courteous and professional experience. Graduate degree candidates must have been accepted to a graduate studies program within 24 months of matriculation or are currently enrolled in a graduate program. Above average ability to read and understand construction drawings, standards, specifications, directives, and building code. Above average skills in professional communication. Above average ability to review construction submittals. Above average knowledge of construction safety, logistics, and management. Above average ability to communicate effectively in English, both in written and oral forms. Highly organized, motivated, and have great attention-to-detail. Strong interest in public service, transit, or transportation and how it operates. Above average ability to work effectively in diverse, collaborative, fast-paced environments as well as independently. Ability to independently commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role. Authorized to work in the United States (international students in CPT, STEM, or OPT programs through a university are eligible to apply).
