Job Description
A Project Engineer responsible for leading and conducting construction administration, inspection, and materials testing for infrastructure and heavy civil construction projects. This role is responsible for project planning, technical leadership, budget management, site inspection, and coordination with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders. The ideal candidate thrives in a field environment and enjoys working directly on construction projects to ensure quality, compliance, and successful project delivery.
Required:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required. 5+ years of experience in construction inspection, construction administration, project engineering, or related infrastructure roles. Proven leadership experience managing field staff, project teams, or construction activities. Strong understanding of engineering principles, construction methodologies, applicable codes, and industry best practices. Experience with heavy civil, transportation, municipal, utility, or infrastructure projects preferred. Proficiency with Bluebeam preferred. Knowledge of materials testing procedures for soils, aggregates, and concrete. Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to prepare accurate and professional technical reports and project documentation. Ability to work full-time in the field during the construction season. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed. Job Responsibilities:
Coordinate design and construction activities, coordinate project team members, coordinate work activities, and provide technical expertise to deliver design and construction projects. Lead teams performing infrastructure contract administration and construction inspection services. Serve as a primary point of contact between project managers, contractors, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project quality and progress. Maintain detailed inspection records, testing documentation, and project reports for compliance and historical reference. Perform and verify field measurements of completed work for reporting, documentation, and payment purposes. Prepare project reports, pay application vouchers, and other project-specific documentation. Oversee and manage on-site materials testing activities, including soil compaction, aggregate testing, and concrete testing. Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety requirements, and applicable regulations. Provide technical guidance and leadership to field personnel and project teams. Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control efforts.
