This role carries full project ownership from planning through closeout, working alongside field supervision, project engineers, owners, agencies, subcontractors, and vendors. The position is based in the Charlotte area with an active and long-term regional project backlog. Schedule Full-time. Project-based schedule aligned to heavy civil construction operations. Compensation $140,000 to $190,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus bonus eligibility. What You'll Do As Project Manager, you will have ownership of heavy highway, road, bridge, and civil infrastructure projects from early planning through final closeout. That includes full accountability for schedule, budget, cost control, forecasting, change order management, contract documentation, and project closeout processes. You will serve as the primary point of contact for owners, DOT agencies, subcontractors, and vendors, maintaining clear and accurate communication throughout the project lifecycle. You will lead field supervision and project engineering teams, setting expectations for safety, quality, and production and holding the project accountable to those standards on a daily basis. Tracking project performance and reporting accurately to internal leadership is a consistent responsibility, as is identifying risks early and resolving them before they escalate. Protecting the company's contractual position through disciplined change order management, claims documentation, and owner communication is a core part of how this role operates. Required Qualifications 10 or more years of experience in heavy highway, road, and bridge construction Demonstrated experience managing medium to large heavy civil projects, with exposure to projects at or above $50 million in value Strong background in DOT, roadway, bridge, grading, drainage, paving, utility, or civil infrastructure project delivery Proven ability to manage owners, agencies, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project teams Solid cost control, scheduling, contract administration, and change order experience Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field OSHA 30 certification Experience working with NCDOT, SCDOT, or comparable state DOT agencies Familiarity with Carolinas-region contractor, agency, and subcontractor networks Experience managing multiple concurrent projects or stepping into a senior PM capacity Compensation and Benefits Base salary: $140,000 to $190,000, depending on experience Annual bonus eligibility Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance 401(k) with company match Paid time off and holidays Company-paid short-term and long-term disability To apply, submit your resume along with a brief summary of your heavy civil project experience, including project types, sizes, and your role on each.
