Job Description
Who We Are Five Ton Monkey, based in Albuquerque, NM, designs, fabricates and installs exhibits, sets and scenery, casework, artworks, architectural elements, sculpted elements, signage and more for museums, zoos, conventions, film, and others. We work in wood, metal, sheet plastics, foams, resins and many other materials. We have been in business for 6.5 years and employ 12 to 20 people, depending on workload. We are in a growth period, where we are understanding and developing workflows, organizational structure, forecasting and tracking. Job Description Produce shop drawings, models, exploded drawings and technical design information based on concept design drawings, models, and artwork to communicate design intent to fabrication, finishing, installation and clients. You will need to produce accurate, well-dimensioned and understandable visual communication for each of these different parties, as needed. Position and Compensation Part-time or full time possible. Pay will range between 30.00/hr and 50.00/hr based on experience and trial fit. We offer certain standard and non-standard benefits. Non-negotiables
- Live within one hour of 5TM (This is an IN-PERSON or mostly in-person position)
WORK AT A HIGH LEVEL IN SKETCH UP / LAYOUT
(3+ YEARS).THIS IS OUR PRIMARY DESIGN LANGUAGE FOR SENDING WORK ONTO THE SHOP FLOOR.
- Have a strong understanding of and experience thinking about materials (standard sizes and properties), hardware, fabrication, workflow and sequencing for fabrication, finishes
- Bring a strong non-engineer's understanding of engineering of forces, structures and objects
- tension/shear/compression/torsion, loads, appropriate tolerances, necessary thicknesses of parts
- Break down designed things into parts, materials and finishes
- Integrate budget considerations into the shop drawing process
- Specify materials and finishes
- Create BOM's and cut-lists
- Communicate extremely well
- patiently, openly and respectfully Important Additional Skills and Familiarities
- Drafting experience in other drawing/modeling programs
- Autocad, Rhino, Fusion, Z-brush, SolidWorks, Blender, Unreal Engine in addition to Sketch Up is extremely valuable
- Experience with CAM and the CAD/CAM interface
- Experience designing for CNC router, fiber laser, 3d printer and vinyl cutter
- Experience with casework design and related hardware (frameless primarily)
- Experience with construction framing, metal and wood
- Experience with building for film or theater
- flat construction, box beams, etc
- Experience designing for foam sculpting
